Castillio was some very good names on his record, just because the was in a couple of great fights with Corrales doesn't alter that.

    Hardly a p4p fighter though.

He was clearly picked at the right time too after weight making problems and the wars he's had, like Calzaghe Vs Hopkins, just a payday fight for Ricky.

Ricky would probably still best a more prime Jose due to styles and size advantage though.

He was just outside the top 10 P4P. I think, and don't quote me on this, he was about 12 or 13. Regardless of his exact placing, he was ranked highly. I have issues of The Ring from before the fight where they still rate him highly.

He wasn't showing this whe he beat Corrales. He looked good in his next fight, too. It was only the Ngoudjo fight which got people thinking and he beat him easier than Malignaggi did, which says something. Ngoudjo is a tough, tough customer. if Castillo looked poor against him, it should hardly be classed as a death sentence.

EDIT: I was wrong. Castillo was 8th P4P.

Yep. I just checked the WebArchive thing for The Ring and he'd actually just come down from 7th after Hopkins entered at 4. I think the 12th or 13th I mentioned must have been after the Hatton fight.

I wouldn't have had Castillo at #8 P4P at that time, more like 12 or 13 - but Hatton would beat any version of Castillo hands down, due to his speed and energy levels.

I dont understand why there is so much hate for Billy. IMO he is an old school style trainer. As for slaging off his work for Hatton get a life. How many so called experts on this site have ever had a pro fight let alone had to bring in a fighter in his best condition or have the skills or knowledge to do so.

All he did was go to war and lose then KO Corrales though. He shouldn't of been ranked he did get ranked.

He was closest to beating Mayweather. A Mayweather that was closer to his prime and prime weight than the version that KO's Hatton. He also has some good wins over Julio Diaz, stevie johnson and Casa (who was a better fighter than he is now).

Prime Castillo was a beast and legitimate p4p fighter.
