Billy has always come across as a guy that thinks nutrition is a full english, eight cans of stellar and a cheeky gram of white powder. If he was really dedicated he'd probably be a light middleweight.
Only just managed to watch the fight. The first 3 rounds he did very little wrong and boxed reasonably well. Then, he just seemed to lose his way. I have no idea why, he seemed to be a split second slower getting out of the pocket. I thought he looked a bit podgy & maybe that contributed to the lack of sharpness. He’s just treading water at the minute. He’s not a 168, that is clear. To compete with Canelo & co, he needs to be at 160 for that speed and sharpness he possesses. At 168, his body isn’t reacting as quick as his ring IQ. I wonder if he’s honest with himself in why he’s holding that belt. If it’s just for a big pay day, fair enough, but I just think he’s so much better than that in terms of skill set & he can only really do himself justice at 160.
The formline with Lemieux is suspect. I'm not sure why he was so highly rated, but triple G treated him like a punchbag for best part of 8 rounds before the ref saved him. He's not done anything outside of vacant and he lost both proper tests, with the first one against Gennady being a walkover. I watched Billy in interview recently, bigging himself up financially and comparing his assets to Junior and it seemed petty. He got just over half a million quid for fighting on that undercard (ex share of ppv and tickets etc), but it's peanuts. He needs a payday but it can't end well should Canelo grant it.
100% agree with the comments that he should have been at 154. It's probably too late now and quite frankly he doesn't want to make the sacrifices, but he is never a 168 fighter. His conditioning has always been an issue, he is good for a few rounds and then slows down. Look a Akavov fight, how he can get in a ring like that is beyond me. The Eubank fight was even more concerning, considering it was real grudge match. He was bullied after 7 rounds and scraped a win against a fighter who he was boxing the head off. The fact that he was in that shape in his biggest career fight and payday with all those bragging rights on the line tells me, that you can never be sure what condition he'll be in. Granted he looked in great nick under Ingle but who knows what was going on there! Getting close to putting a fork in Saunders now. He hasn't covered himself in glory outside the ring and most people don't care about him inside it either. You can't say he hasn't had a chance. If he somehow loses his undefeated record in one of these neverending tune up fights, he'll be finished.
lol. You have no idea what his body composition is. He boxed at 69 as an amateur so you would have thought as he his body grows he would need to move up. Most boxers move up in weight not down. He also had virtually zero power at 160 so I can't imagine what he would be like at 154. At least he is knocking people over now.
Body grows? He isn't Pacman, who puts on quality mass as he moves up. This guy is fat, end of. Read through the thread - he's getting slated for being in poor condition... AGAIN. He's two divisions too high. He has looked good ONCE in his career (physically speaking). Mate, many fighters didn't have pop at a certain division. But when they went down, the power went up (Bob Foster, for example).
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he's had 2 fights at super middle and struggled in both. Needs to drop back to middleweight and get that title back of Andrade. Oh, and he said he would move to light heavy to fight canelo... Load of crap.
I must say something - there was very little wrong with the Isufi performance. We know he got caught with a heavy shot and wobbled but Isufi has legitimate power and it was one of them behind the ear shots that can take a fighters souls. He recovered from it well. That was his only blip in that fight. It was dissapointing he didn't get rid of Isufi but it was his first fight at SMW and Isufi is a former cruiserweight. I reiterate I never wanted him to fight at SMW but the Isufi analysis from most on here is harsh at best. There was plenty of beautiful boxing on display from Billy on the night.
I honestly think he just wants that payday now nice ten mil plus will be what he will be looking for.
Only got to sit down and watch the fight in full now. Billy looked great in the first round but honestly, I think he lost most rounds from 2 - 10. He would've got the cards because he's a matchroom fighter but it would've been fortunate. Credit to Coceres who was game, competent, fit and determined. I don't know where Billy found that finish in round 11 but he was a killer. Threw the kitchen sink at Coceres and thankfully got the stoppage with a few lovely punches. He showed he's a winner and a champion by pulling it out of the bag late when he was tired. Before that Billy looked flat footed, slow, unfit, lacking in sharpness and head movement. Thankfully he has a great chin. However, it was possibly the worst I've seen him from 2 - 10. Rumours are Canelo talks have started and I believe it because it's a great opportunity for Alvarez to win a legitimate SMW belt. I've always said BJS would trouble Canelo but he looked so poor at the weight last night that I'm doubting myself. I know Billy goes up and down levels but he was countered so easily last night from early on. He didn't even have those golden early rounds he's renowned for which worries me. In saying all that, it'll be the fight of his life and despite his dedication flaws over the years, I'm sure he'll put everything into this fight and do himself proud. God knows he badly needs a challenge to get himself going.
Pretty sure if he is back with Ingle he will be working with 'Greg the Nutritionist' again. He always seems to be hanging out with Bill in his videos. This content is protected
