We need to live in the real world mate. They took the cash with the chips massively against them. A guy thats struggled to fund his career over the years. A guy thats took punches off usyk, joshua, fury and many more without getting paid like the rest of them have. They had to take it. Bakoles getting older. It is what it is....bakole had absolutely no notice to fight an ex world champion who,d had his best ever training camp. We can bash his reputation till the cows come home. Its still not grounded in the reality that the fella had no notice to fight an ex world champion in his prime.....with his best training camp ever. While bakole....had zero prep. Zero sparring. Overweight. Not training sitting in the congo before flying in late to try to mount a fight of it.
I understand fully why he done it and hope the cost to reputation is worth the sum received. Boxing fans simply disgusted.
I still dont get his reputation taking much of a hit bearing in mind the crazy circumstances he took the fight on. It was basically a free hit for bakole. Odds massively against him...unprepared. no camp. No sparring. Overweight. 24 hour notice. Jumping on aeroplanes arriving at 2am the night before. What are we saying here....that hes useless based off that kind of preparation. Even with a full camp at heavy that can happen to anyone. Happened to lewis twice anyway.
As a professional athletes, is it not kinda his job to be ready when these opportunities come around. Look at the grit and bottle young Padley showed in his fight...could being in shape have had anything to do with that? Don't get me wrong, I won't blame him for taking the fight, he'd have been mad not to, getting back to the professional part of his job, he fights for money and took the chance. Fair play and big balls to have done so. But you have to question the man and his trainer if he allows himself to get into such poor shape in a game where he might be asked to step up at anytime. Martin isn't the only one, big Tyson, Hatton to name a couple did the same, but the fighters who stay within a crack of their fighting weight and train every day seem to have longer more successful careers. I see both sides of this one, but I'll stick with saying well done to him for risking it all, cash out or not, lots of courage.
Got to disagree mate, imo no fight would have been the right decision unless there was an actual stand by fighter that was in training to step in. There should have been massive questions raised by the BBBofC who were the ones in charge when they know that Bakole would be getting in so late and having to travel that far. The whole fight and how it come about was farcical. There was no duty of care shown to Bakole from his promotor, manager/coach the BBBofC or Turki himself. The proper thing to do would have been to give Parker a little cash for his inconvenience and then add the original fight with Dubios to the next Riyadh season show. The Bakole fight added zero to the card on Saturday night and I hope that Turki has learnt a lesson from it and in the future either has fighters on stand by or just removes the fight from the card. This still shows how green Turki is to the whole boxing scene if he actually thought this was a master stroke bringing in a fighter with literally no training in to save his show in at the last minute
@bbjc You're not making any sense. The only reason Parker did not box Okolie was because Bakole accepted the offer. If Bakole hadn't been offered it by Al Shake or turned it down, he would've been in the ring with Okolie, who was in much better shape than Bakole and who seemed up for it. He lives an hour away from Riyad. Nelson who has the biggest mouth in boxing and Bakole who seems to have the biggest belly in boxing, both look like a pair of absolute tits.
He had to take the fight for the money he got and the guarantees he's got going forwards. It's easy for people to criticise now , in hindsight and how things panned out, but it was still a no brainer. You can never tell what's going to happen in boxing so have to take the money while it's on offer, a failed brain scan, a bad injury , a dodgy decision from the judges can all cost you millions and your career, those situations are all out of your control , so take it when you can. Should he have been in better shape, probably , but he wasn't, anyone thinking it would be any different for a heavyweight like Martin is a fool for thinking they have been short changed by it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing , but imagine the flak he would be getting now if he had not taken the fight, he's cleared over £1m after paying his team and his taxes , fair play to him. Does he need to prove himself in his next fight , absolutely, but even if he doesn't he's earned a serious amount of money and can eventually retire a very wealthy man.
Bakole has lost his shot at the IBF final eliminator, but will still face Ajagba in May. I'm assuming Nelson and Bakole are putting their trust in Turki al al Shake to get a title shot should Martin Bakole beat Ajagba. Nelson or Bakole mentioned in a video interview that it was told that he would get a shot in 2026.
You just said in your last post parker changed his mind and didnt want okolie he wanted bakole. No one wants to see okolie fight...fit or not. If you asked most fans if they wanted an untrained bakolie or a fit enough okolie. They,d have wanted the bakole fight. Nelson or bakole being a pair of tits are no concern to me. I couldnt care less...i just dont really see it based off a fight the guy turned up for on zero notice whatsoever. I still say dubois is the big tit of the weekend. Still no sign of a resheduling of the original fight.
