barrera is a great fighter.. bivols win and KO at that tells us all he is an elite fighter.. no more arguments
This. Barrera always puts on a good show and comes ready to fight, but Stevenson, Kovalev, Jack, Gvozdyk, and even Alvarez are better than him and would easily beat him. Barrera's wins over Joe Smith Jr. and Shabranskyy put him in the top 10, but just barely.
Barrera is not the 2nd best Light Heavyweight. Kovalev, Stevenson, Jack, Gvozdyk, Beterbiev and Bivol himself were ahead of Barrera before the fight. He's #7 at best. I don't care what the rankings said...Barrera is not top 5. I like Bivol and I think he has a bright future, but he's still inexperienced. Deep inside, he's not ready for a Kovalev fight and he knows it. He may have a belt, but even he admitted in the post-fight that he need to correct his mistakes. Give him 2 more fights, 1 fringe top 10 guy and 1 top 10 guy and he'll be confident enough to take on Kovalev.
Would like to see Bivol fight the winner of Stevenson/Jack, Bivol will knock either one...............
What a great fight, first of all! I was impressed by Bivol, but I was also impressed by Barrera as well.
Yeah, he looked awesome. He moves himself in and out of ranger very impressively and as noted he has real quick hands, which is kinda rare to see for someone heavy handed.
The OP left himself open to criticism (and his point getting hijacked by tangential bickering with people getting hung up on the one finer point) by wording it as "2nd best light heavyweight" - something I don't think anyone considers Barrera on a h2h basis. What the OP should have said was "the WBA #1 mandatory contender (and thus second most highly ranked under their banner..." which is what I think he probably meant, and what in fact Barrera was.
People are effected from post fight highs too much. I guarantee Kov still gives him a hell of a fight and will come close to stopping him. I see age as Bivols only advantage. I think he will win but only by a slight margin. He fights like a young man full of testosterone with no regards to getting hurt. I like to wait and see how a fighter deals with adversity first before I go crowning.
He suffered cuts and swelling from both punches and headbutts in the Barrera fight, and found his world class skilled opponent unwilling to lay down even after throwing all but the kitchen sink at him for most of the championship distance. How much adversity do you need to see him undergo (with unflappable aplomb), exactly?
Barrera doesn’t hit even close to an unmotivated Kovalev. You all saw what he did half ass to that guy he fought. Face was hamburger. Plus I find it peculiar that people didn’t give Ward credit moving up and being inactive when he beat Barrera. I’m just saying. Let’s see the Kovalev fight then have this conversation. Bo ol is clearly a monster but I think people crown everybody to soon now days.
