Sorry mate, but what you're saying is just plain BS. I'm not going to support someone just because of their nationality. I'm as Australian as the next bloke, yet if I don't like Green (for whatever reason) or any other ozzie for that matter, then I don't have to support them. You can't shame people into supporting who you think they should be by claiming 'it takes all kinds'. You don't know me, so you don't know 'what kind' I am. :nono Pecks - I'm with you on this. :good
Oh well, if they're so narrow minded that they can't respect other peoples opinions, then they know what they can do....... :hi:
We've disagreed before and I'm willing to bet we'll disagree again Sox. Hoping Green v Flores will be a great match-up, and that's why I follow boxing. To see those wars that unfortunately these days, are few and far between. I hope in the process Green does Australians proud, even the ones that hate him.
Briggs farce forces Green into big fight Adrian Warren - The Age - Sept 7 2010 AAP Danny Green has answered critics of his controversial bout with Paul Briggs by choosing a credible opponent in a "David v Goliath" title defence. This content is protected It is the same venue as his July 21 clash with Briggs, who lasted just 29 seconds after being caught by a grazing blow. Following equally one-sided blow-outs of former world champions Manny Siaca and Roy Jones Jr, Green's three title defences have lasted less that a combined total of five rounds. This content is protected This content is protected "His size and his speed is definitely going to be a big test for me, I haven't boxed anyone that big," Green said at the Sydney press conference. "The most difficult thing about this is not his size, it's his speed coupled with his power and size, not only is he a big unit, he's a fast slick unit." Asked if the choice of Flores would bring credibility back to the sport following the furore generated by his fight against Briggs, Green said "I've always tried to maintain credibility in this sport. Unfortunately I can't turn back and change what happened, it wasn't my doing, I didn't create what happened." While he didn't want to dwell on the Briggs bout, Green made it clear he was unhappy with the attitude of some people in its aftermath, but resisted the urge to lash out. "I'm not one to really hold my tongue, but I'm going to this time because I think it's the best thing to do and I'll let my fists do the talking," Green said. Asked if he owed his fans anything following the Briggs fight, Green said "I always owe my fans something, because they are my supporters." He lifted his veil of diplomacy for just a moment when commenting briefly on his critics. "A lot of people out there don't have any balls or have the heart or the courage to say anything to my face, those people, don't come (to my next fight)." This content is protected "I sat for three hours with the people holding the inquiry, spilt everything out, told them everything, I've done nothing wrong," Green said. Flores, 31, watched the Green-Briggs bout on Youtube and while he was reluctant to comment on it, he suggested the fallout had possibly helped him get a shot at the Australian. "I think after the last fight, he (Green) had to make a big fight, he had to step in the right direction and I think that's what he's doing now, bringing in a name opponent," Flores told AAP. He hasn't fought for 13 months due to contractual issues, but says he is a more explosive fighter after following a program with his strength and conditioning expert Ray Franklin. A former American Golden Glove light heavyweight and twice US Amateur Heavyweight champion Flores has sparred with several past and present professional heavyweight title holders including David Haye, Jon Ruiz and Ruslan Chagaev.
dam this BJ guy is big!!! green is in for a hell of a fight. will green try and come in a little more than 185? will he try and push it to 190? either way BJ should be able to throw him around in the clinch.
Good question regarding Green's weight. Reckon if he thought the extra 5 lbs were useful to him he'd already have scaled up. You're right, the size difference is likely to be a big factor, and Flores has fought much bigger than 200 lbs in the past. So he's likely to front up on fight night 205 - 210 lbs, after a couple of decent feeds.
i read he is right into the weights atm (BJ that is) hope it makes him slower. but he has been sparring some big heavies atm, green may have bitten off more than he can chew. is this BJ guy chinny? ever been kocked down in his am career? i see he was the US am heavy weight champ.
