I'm lesser a fan of GGG than I am a critic of Arum. I'm also being realistic about how Arum conducts his business.

How about you provide the examples of Arum risking his fighter who would be manning the unquestioned B-side of the promotion before that fighter reached the point in his career when he became economically viable, and matched him against an opponent who was not under his promotional control?

Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao fight number 1.

Arum has never had any qualms about matching any of his fighters who were not PPV draws or didn't have obvious financial upside.

In Marquez, Arum knew he was a great talent, but because he wasn't a seek and destroy fan friendly type fighter with obvious PPV upside potential, he didn't think twice about matching Marquez up with Manny Pacquiao who had just dismantled and knocked out Marco Antonio Barrera.

Arum thought so much of Marquez' skill level, he dared not match his cash cow Erik Morales with the other featherweight in his stable Juan Manuel Marquez for fear Marquez would beat his money maker.
But he had no qualms about matching Marquez against Pacquiao because he needed Marquez to first gain "NAME RECOGNITON" before a fight with Morales could even be contemplated.
That's Arum taking a fighter on the B side of a promotion and trying to inch him closer to being on the A side.

 

I believe what Arum says about as much as I believe what Roach says.

 

Zurdo isn't ready but does have some of the very best young sparring to help prepare him.

I was hoping its a Carlos Monzon or Tiger Muhammad type of Middleweight before I opened the thread, just to find out there is no Middleweight :nono

 

Zurdo is good... or at least has looked the part against his very mediocre level of opposition, I like the kid, but he failed to wow against his only semi-decent opponent in Vlasov. I'd need to see a lot more out of him before I'd pick him over GGG, even though his length and style could be potentially troublesome for Golovkin.

 

Can Lengthy Zurdo make the Middleweight limit?

Pacquiao was the A-side of that promotion - not the unquestioned B-side example that we can try and liken to Zurdo Ramirez.

You can try and find the rare needle in the haystack but Arum matching his fighters who possess economic upside potential but haven't yet carved a name out for themselves - against established fighters who are outside of his stable is completely against his business model.

Consider the likeliness of this scenario: Arum agreeing to put Crawford in with Pac for Pac's next fight - only Pacquiao hypothetically was promoted by another promoter. It would never happen. He wasn't much less going to risk Crawford against Pac even though he controls both guys. The suggestion was always a farce in my view. But when you add the hypothetical dimension of what if Pacquiao was a Golden Boy fighter to the scenario then the suggestion becomes even more absurd.
