Certainly not amazing but he did win the lineal title over a guy many of you wax lyrical over. That's a decent effort.
Yes and nobody can take away that from him. I just think that if 40 years old Fitzsimmons with bad hands was good enough to outbox Gardner (who looks good on the film, arguably better than Braddock although he's smaller), I don't think that Braddock would be able to outbox prime Fitzsimmons.
I'll stick with Braddock. Braddock, Baer, Gardner, none of them leap out on film and they look quite clumsy at times. Braddock has a half functioning jab and at times sneaky right hand and that will hold him in reasonable stead.
Fair enough. Gardner had quite good jab in this clip as well and he often doubled it to set up overhand right. He also looks fast, faster than Braddock. All I'm saying is that not all of Fitzsimmons opponents looks bad on the tape and Gardner lost to shot version of Fitz.
You do realize how sped up this film is yeah? 2nd Career Foreman would look like SRL via this platform.
Yes I realize that and we can make rough adjustement to that. Gardner's hands are still fast, even when you slow it down.
I see Braddock getting outboxed and eventually knocked out by Fitz. Even in the Corbett footage I find him to be a more impressive boxer than Braddock, and Corbett made Bob look pretty silly in that one. Still, the snippets where Fitz looks good suggest he wins IMO.
