Yeah, nobody ever questioned this KO punch. Fitz went under Corbett's jab and found his body with perfect counter. You can also see light punch to the head when Corbett went down (similar to Rocky against Walcott).

No one living has seen the Jeffries v Fitz fights.
The Johnson V Fitzsimmons fight was not filmed.

    I doesn't make any sense:

    - the punch is visible on film,
    - Corbett was down for a lot more than 10 seconds, he was in visible pain,
    - nobody ever questioned the legitimacy of this KO and the audience was big there,
    - Corbett was angry after the fight and demanded rematch,
    - Fitzsimmons explained how he knocked out Corbett and it suits to what we see on film,
    - why would they wait until 14th round and why Fitz would get quite a beating in the first half? It doesn't make ane sense,
    - Fitz landed on Corbett's body quite a few powerful shots before that are visible on film, why didn't Corbett go down then?

Corbett is described as crawling along the canvas in agony, unable to stand erect.
As you mention ,once he had regained his feet and wind he marched over to Fitz's corner demanding a rematch.Fitz told him he would never fight him again ,and Corbett responded," then Ill fight you everytime I see you on the street!"

Fitz cooly replied,"Jim if you ever hit me outside a ring I'll kill you".
Legitimate and painful ko which has never been doubted by any sensible person over the 123 years since it happened.

Fitzsimmons was better, more consistent , and more durable.I think there is clear water between them, but maybe not any as regards power.

The fight was a mismatch.Fitz was much too old to make a showing and he entered the ring with an injured right arm, hurt in sparring with Joe Jeannette.
Johnson always downplayed the win, knowing Fitz was just a shell of the fighter he had been,he later wrote.
"The oddest thing about the entire affair was that this knockout earned me a huge leap in everyone's esteem. He knocked out Bob Fitzsimmons!
This Johnson ,must be a real boxer!
This goes to show how reputations are made. For years I had been fighting the best men who ever put on the gloves, and all of those bouts put together did less for my reputation, than knocking out poor Bob Fitzsimmons."

So one of the most famous and legitimate punches in boxing history and the crippling effect it had on Corbett in front of many witnesses, is being declared fake by Rahal Gooly Gooly 123 years later.

It is left counter to the body, it wasn't a "slap/light jab which barely landed". It's on film, quality is bad but you can see it. Nobody ever disputed this KO, not even Corbett fans.

Correcting misconceptions is not a waste of time. When someone will read our discussion in future, it's better for him to realize what is true.
