Foster would just have too much power for Carlos. I think Carlos would lose a wide decision and be put down a few times.
I think Carlos is smart and durable enough to make the rounds aswell. Foster could very well knock him out...like he could just about anyone at 175...But I say whilst he dictates Monzon with his size and power he doesnt necessarily knock him out. I reckon he wins about 10-5...several of those 10 rounds being very painful for Carlos and relatively dominant for Bob.
Good post. I think Foster would probably stop Monzon but it's far from being clear-cut. Do you think that Monzon's tendency to fight tall would actually work against him vs Foster? It worked wonders for him at middleweight, but at 175.......
Basically why I cant see him winning it. He was nearly always the taller man at middle..and better at range then anyone he fought there. Thats where he liked the fight. That advantage is thrown out the window here...Bob is obviously taller and whilst not as skilled IMO..the gulf is fairly small..certainly not large to make up for the physical and stylistic advantages Bob holds in this ohe.
Foster by mid to late rounds stoppage. Monzon stood up straight and made use of his reach and height ,he would have the disadvantages here in both ,and his up right stance would leave him open to Foster's power shots.
I feel he can equal or better Monzon at range. And not just because he is tall...he is a high level operator aswell. Im not saying Bob wins this only because he is bigger...its a combination of the power, the skills and experience at the elite level.
Probably the second most durable middleweight of all time does not get the **** ripped out of him just because he's fighting an admittedly great puncher who is fifteen pounds heavier. Especially when the middleweight is actually a better fighter. Foster would do a job on him though; 10-5, with a couple of hairy moments for both of them, surprisingly, but Monzon moreso.
I just dont see anywhere that Monzon holds an advantage ,possibly,I say possibly, handspeed. Was Monzon more durable than Hagler,Lamotta,Greb,Hopkins,[160lbs]?
Despite being probably one of the biggest Monzon fans around, I'm a bit adverse to making predictions on fights concerning Monzon and guys from heavier divisions..I think both Monzon and Hagler were unique in knowing what class was their ideal, and staying with it...sometimes a great thing, especially when you reign in that class a long time and rack up the defenses.
Nah definitely not handspeed. Monzon holds the advantage in nothing raw physically, but in a range of things technically. Only slight advantages, but advantages all over; timing, coordination and so on. Like I said, Monzon would get beaten, but he'd hold up. He doesn't go from being invincible to blurry-eyed because of fifteen pounds in weight, and I'd lay money on that. I rate Hagler alongside LaMotta as the most durable middleweight, but LaMotta wasn't quite the survivor Monzon was, who's only a very slight step behind anyway.
Monzons chin was seldom tested in the fire imo.Apart from Valdez and to a lesser extent Briscoe which real hitters did Monzon meet?
