Foster's power posses a real threat to Spinks, but I have confidence in Michael's ability to use his ring savy and box his way out of trouble. Once the fight made it past the mid point, I can see Spinks heating up as he typically did later in fights being a slow starter. At some point he begins landing some of those lethal right hands and eventually wears Foster down late for a stoppage or manages to take a comfortable decision.

This is a great match up! It's true that Spinks was wiped out by Tyson, but generally Spinks could take a hell of a shot. More importantly, he usually never had to worry about that, as he was a very crafty defensive boxer. Foster wouldn't be able to walk in with that stance that was so key to the leverage he needed to toss those devasating shots. Still, Foster could really hit, and if he got a clean shot anything is possible. Of course, Spinks could hit, too, and Foster could be hit. I will go with Spinks in a closely contested 15 or 12 round win, with Spinks using his superior boxing skill.

In my opinion, Spinks was one of the very best light heavyweights. My top five h2h would probably look like this: Charles, Spinks, Foster, Moore, and Jones.

I'm not understanding why people are going with Foster I mean Spinks is faster, almost as hard of a puncher, and is extremely awkward. Foster had the power to knock him out but I think Spinks could take his punches.

I agree, however as much as I am picking Spinks, there are some very good reasons why Foster is a favorable choice. He was the Ring's #3 all time great lightheavyweight, and the #8 rated lethal puncher in any division of all time. He fought in more lightheavyweight title fights than Spinks did and possibly even during a more competitive era. Bob Foster was sort of like the Joe Louis of the lightheavyweight division.

Let the record show that I have also picked Spinks primarily for intangible reasons, but in all honesty, Foster's chances look better on the surface.

    Spinks faster than Foster? :huh

Have you seen peak Foster? If Spinks had one average aspect, it wwas his speed. Not a weakness by ANY means, but he was no speedster in there. Fosters speed and snap vs Rondon was frightening.

Spinks could throw a triple left hook quicker than Foster. His hand speed against Larry Holmes was top notch.

What fights did Spinks and Foster have where they threw these triple left hooks we can judge by? I'm trying to recall either tripling up.

The bottom line is that Foster is faster than Spinks not vice versa. Foster had some very serious hand speed while Spinks did not stand out in this area.

Spinks hand speed was underrated. Foster may have been faster but Spinks was no slouch when he it came to hand speed imo. I don't see how Foster was much faster than Spinks. The fight where he threw triple left hooks was against Mustafa Wassja.
