It's pretty obvious that alcoholism and the car accident are his problem, not atheism. If we're gonna get religious though, the car accident was very appropriate punishment for a guy with four DWI's.

Well alot of us have sad stories but most don't let it wreck our lives or more than likely do not use it as an excuse.....I was a big fan of Bobby he was a talented fighter who had the goods but when he got his DUI's and it was made public you can't help but notice his fame bought him a pass or two and anyone who has had family members die from or saved a life at an accident caused by a drunk driver or simply helped clean up the mess has no pity for his situation.....innocent good people die every day by a drunk driver and we have children, parents and spouses who drive the same roads. He has had more chances than most of us and threw it away guys like him don't fall from grace they jump.

Fascinating story. The atheism certainly didn't upset me as I am agnostic, but I did notice he was a bit "in your face" about it, which is the same thing that I absolutely can't stand about religious types.

Czyz emerged right around the time that I started following boxing closely, so I have a certain nostalgia for him and his career, the way I suppose my Dad's generation would feel about guys like Carmen Basilio or Gene Fulmer. He was a good fighter, one of the best of his era at the weight. Like he said, whatever has happened to him, he has a legacy, he's in the record books forever.

He has a legacy. 2 time champ.. decent fighter, not great. Talked a good talk and then fell for the things he insulted. Saying he would never quit like Roldan did, saying this the week he quit like Roldan did. Lost to Hill and Andries, yet had excuses for the losses.

Hopefully he cashes when Mickey Rourke decides to do his life story.

It would be like The Wrestler meets the movie about Paz.

Very well written and interesting article . It is a shame he can't get a broadcasting gig. This reminds me of Mickey Rourke's character in the Wrestler. Glad to see
Unlike Randy the Ram, Bobby Doesn't seem to mind people recognizing him.

He had heart. Williams beat the sh@t out of him twice. His face was hideously swollen in the Williams fight and he took hellaacious punishment. I was glad Williams pulled off the upset, but Cyzz fought gallantly.

    Cyzz overachieved in my opinion

Sad to see. Czyz was a very exciting fighter when he first started out. His fight against Hamsho was on prime time on NBC and some of his TV ratings set records (in his day).

At least, Bobby Czyz is currently holding down a job, which is nothing for him to be ashamed of. Good luck to him in the future.

Wish Bobby well. Good fighter who should have fought Goodwin, Ramos, Shuler, and Mays, maybe Fletcher, which could have been a tremendous ratings fight.

Did Czyz attribute his ring success to his atheism?
