Nope. You're good. As per our deal, you can have Ingo as the thinking man's GOAT, as long as Cleve is the GOAT GOAT.
I was referring to a specific fight and the circumstances of that fight. Trust you to come along and start broad-brushing with nothing of any real relevance to the matter at hand. For example, what has José Sulaimán got to do with a WBA title fight? Bringing Holmes into the conversation as if his raking millions from the sport reflects hardship and is somehow on topic But the bigger miss from you here is that the aim of understanding the context of the Witherspoon/Smith II bout is more with a view to challenging Smith's credentials as a credible threat to Quarry, rather than to make excuses for Witherspoon himself. Perhaps, in your eagerness to play the man and not the ball you've simply gotten carried away again and lost the thread of the thread.
As usual you have nothing. I gave my thoughts on it earlier in the thread. Try to read instead of preach. You’re a bore.
Do you know what's really boring? The predictability of a moron who inserts himself into a conversation between two other posters and then acts like a self-righteous ***** when they have, once again, been taken to school. I had no interest in what you had to say on this thread until you replied to me with this: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...inst-jerry-quarry.702925/page-3#post-22287784 You followed the same pattern on the 'George Foreman from the 90s vs. Zhang Zhilei' thread. Take your slapping like a man and, in future, do not respond to any more of my posts - you utter tool!
In a sense, he even tanked Larry Holmes by failing to close the show at the end with the brain dead attitude that he already had it won on the cards, thus squandering his greatest career performance. To dethrone a champion, YOU NEED TO CLOSE THE SHOW! This is also why Norton absolutely did not deserve to win Ali II and Ali III. You challenge for a championship, you go balls to the wall the way Leon Spinks did in Ali I. Sticking and moving can also achieve this, as Pastrano did with his initiatory jab against Harold Johnson (who tried to defend with counters to Willie's body). Mike Weaver was nearly shut out by John Tate in Knoxville, but Big John's corner foolishly told him to retreat for the final round, allowing Hercules to close the show. Did he tank Smith II in December 1986? Considering that this is boxing, it's certainly plausible, and nobody else stopped Spoon until April 1999.
That's actually INSANE. How the hell can you suspend and strip a champion of his title for not rematching a guy he already beat and there was no contract? How the hell did the fight even get made without a contract?!? Isn't that technically illegal since it was just two guys fighting in public? The more I learn about the Smith vs Spoon rematch, the less it makes sense. As for the thread, Quarry UD's Smith, 8 rounds to 4. Smith has some success in the handful of rounds where he suckers Quarry into engaging with him for a close quarters affair, and has some crowd pleasing moments where he manages to buzz the Californian with a few heavy bombs. It would be a good fight since both are not shy at all and willing to let their hands go, but Quarry's just all wrong for Smith. His sharp counters, good fundamentals, and ring IQ almost completely neutralize Smith's caveman slugger style. Outside of a small puncher's chance (very small considering the big hitters of the 70's Quarry demolished), the only things Smith could do to upset Quarry would be if he manages to break him down with consistent body shots (Smith's a tad underrated there), opens a bad cut, or Quarry is out of shape and Smith drowns him late. Quarry is probably one of the worst h2h opponents for a slow, limited puncher like Smith who often lacked both imagination and heart at times (come on, you have to pick a struggle).
Grammatically, it might be better to use a different acronym for Cleveland Williams. "Goat Goat" sounds like something from a Migos song or a tik tok catch phrase. Instead, maybe you should use GGOAT (Greatest Greatest Of All Time).
