exactly. bowe had all the tools but like sharkey was prone to spontaneous combustion. I dont see how so many folks rate him so high amoung linear champs. Even head to head what evidience is there outside the holyfield fights he could hold it together in a key fight? Heck, hollyfield is his lone impresive scalp and he lost to him too, throw in the fact he had all the advantages against him (and there was something wrong with evander in their last fight- he stopped working when he had bowe dead on the ropes- who ever did that!) and it amounts to rating him against one smaller opponent. I think buster douglas was beter. Buster wasnt groomd the conventional way and was matched harder on the way up- he was just as disapointing only a lot more impresive on a good day.

No way was Douglas better than Bowe. For instance, look at how an out of shape Douglas got KOed by Holyfield while an out-of-shape Bowe pushed Holyfield to the limit in their rematch to a very close decision (and arguably, Bowe deserved a win or draw).

Admittedly, Bowe did not fight the best competition outside of Holyfield. But he beat enough contenders to become the WBA number one contender. Moreover, he beat an all-time great who was in his prime. How many fighters can say that?

So it depends on what you define as a "key fight". Maybe Bowe's only "key fights" were against Holyfield, but by that standard, very few "key fights" have taken place in the history of the division.

O'Grady and Alpert had a great rapport.

Alpert: He needs two things in this fight.

    O'Grady: Yeah, a right and a left.

Alpert: all right, he needs four things in this fight...
