When i was boxing i studied ken buchanan, and wladimir klitchko why because my dad said so. I was a tall white heavyweight, who liked to move about im not trying to instigate racism. But if you are white trying to fight like ali is going to get you hurt. My great grandad was a pro in scotland, and he told my dad for whites to do well they have to fight a certian way.
Buchanan had HORRIBLE flaws... He got away with it most of the time because of a great pair of legs, a solid chin, and true grit... But if you count how much he got hit in a fight, you wouldn't want to copy him. Wladimir, if you wanna be really boring and get knocked out every now and then... A good white boy to watch and learn SOLID fundamentals is Billy Graham.
Cant go wrong with Bhop. I also find Pavlik interesting when it comes to working the 1-2 combo, but thats about it for Youngstown ohio. If your really small, Ivan Calderon/Ricardo Lopez are a blast to watch. Pure boxers(in particular calderon). Bhop though is probably your best bet. And i hate to say it but Wlad if your a HW can be useful(but dont fall asleep).
My favorite is an amateur to watch; actually. He's a pro now but he boxed at 165 and went to the Olympic Trials last year, Danny Jacobs.
For amatuer boxing; Guillermo Rigondeaux. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Miguelito Cotto. The unexpected right hands/left for Rigondeaux they can come up with, just amazing timing.
Good choice. Go B-hop! I found a pretty neat video a while back with Hopkins talking Jab techniques. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXzjj7f5Yno
I feel Alexis Arguello is a great guy to watch, because he always kept his hands up, and was so fundamentally sound. Great guy for a young kid to emulate in the ring not the guys who show boat and keep their hands at their waist
How comes that guy got banned whoever he was? Looks like I'm having a conversation with myself now. Any how, guys like Winky and Hopkins in terms of techniques and know-how.
I tend to try to emulate Winky Wright and James Toney. But I also learned tricks from Archie Moore (using the cross arm effectively), and Jersey Joe Wallcot (attacking when completely unexpected).
Jack Sharkey was a good boxer-puncher. I like his stance and his way of fighting. His temperament was too impulsive sometimes. Nevertheless a good allround-boxer to watch.
I always watched a lot of different boxers when I was active but generally there was two fighters that I really liked and "borrowed" some stuff from and they where Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard. However I really think that it´s important to develop your own stuff cause there are not two fighters that are alike. Borrow a little here and a little there and combine a lot of your own stuff and make something special out of it. But it is a great inspiration to watch the best of the best. All the best The Predator
