Robinson, said Hern, starting telling 'his broken-down sparring partner that he would be lucky to get anything—but he didn’t finish. Wade fired his Sunday punch that knocked Robinson to the sidewalk and then gave him a brisk going-over.'"
He was. From what I read he was a very tough guy. Conn's complaint about their fight was that the people that were trying to break it up only grabbed him, which enabled the father in law to land some shots.
A Navy buddy of mine said he saw Pernell Whitaker get knocked out in a club. He said Whitaker was stumbling drunk at the time. The story gets better though. He said the guy bragged about the knockout all week and returned to the club that weekend. Whitaker returned to the club as well. He was prepared to let bygones be bygones until the guy confronted him again. They stepped outside to settle things. This time, a completely sober Whitaker toyed with the guy and pulled his punches enough to administer a frightful beating. According to my buddy, that poor (foolish) guy spilled lots of blood that night.

I find it a hilarious thought that Conn was hiding behind his door calling the cops because his drunk farther in law was waiting at the door all the while he is trying to secure a rematch with Joe Louis.
