I agree on Fury. Was waiting for him to get exposed, but he actually got better over time. He's not all that talented, but at 6'9, he is a problem with the talent he does have. Isaac Dogboe surprised me. I didn't think much of him. He looked to be gassing big time in the Juarez fight and that fight was only in the 5th round when he got the stoppage. I expected Magdaleno to outbox him somewhat easily, and maybe stop him once he gassed. He got dropped early and I figured the exposure was in full effect. He showed a ton of heart, focus, and determination though, and answered questions about his gas tank as well, in disposing of Magdaleno with that pressure.
Carl Froch - All I saw was his sloppy technique and how wide open he was. I hadn't accounted for the fact he had an iron chin and will to overcome his technical deficiencies. Was the first Kessler fight when I realised he was far better than I expected, he under performed vs Kessler and still only just lost. Tyson Fury - Again I saw the sloppy technique and lack of discipline in and out of the ring and expected him to get found out eventually. But when it really mattered he was nothing but disciplined in his approach to out spoil Wlad. He plays the fool, but he's a lot smarter than he is given credit for.
He avoided heavy punchers until Wlad... I thought (and still do) that back then Pricey would lay him out...
Pac and Floyd both exceeded everyone's expectations by a lot if you go back far enough. I also worte off Wlad after Brewster got him.
Errol Spence was always gunna be a big player in the division even if he had lost to Wlad. For me Tyson Fury still has stuff to prove, his style was klitischkos kyrptonite but he hasn’t beaten one top 10 fighter. Not to mention he fell apart as soon as he proved his good he could be .
Oh yeah, Bellew, I was sure he'd get KO'd pretty much by everyone he stepped in with in CW/HW. It's been frustrating to be proven wrong so many times by one guy. Firstly I thought the Russian bloke would do it, forgot his name, then was certain Makabu would brutally KO him, didn't happen. Then with Haye I was like, no way, Haye will decapitate him. Nop. Been frustrating watching him. But good on him I guess, I like to be proven wrong as well sometimes. One person I think some people are forgetting is Wilder, say what you want but how many have written him off.. Even me but he just keeps ****ing people up annoyingly.
Carl Froch, Tyson Fury, Eubank Jr have all acheived much more in the sport than i thought they would. Canelo proved me wrong, i always had a strong suspicion he was a drugs cheat but i never ever thought GBP would let him get caught.
Mayweather. I thought he was a clean fighter then IV gate happened. I also supported him in his stance against battered women v Corrales as a champion of battered women. Then he started battering them himself 2 weeks later
Agree with others on Fury. For me, recently, it’s S[o]unders and Briedis. I didn’t expect Billy to clown Lemieux after the way he looked/fought in his last fight before him. I thought a violent KO was coming based on BJS’s gas tank alone and his overall performance was just.... sad. Briedis, I’m Latvian, I’m his biggest fan by default, but even I didn’t expect him to become first Latvian ever to win an alphabet strap, partially because I didn’t believe that he’ll ever get a shot, and I certainly didn’t expect him to give Usyk so much trouble. Had he a tank to keep on going the way he fought the first 4, who knows, who knows.
