    Not for nothing is Alexis Arguello vs. Alfredo Escalera known as The Bloody Battle of Bayamon. Both men gushed.

    Both were also cut in their rematch about a year later. Two sharp, slashing punchers.

    There was an obscure fight on I think ESPN around 1980 between Johnny Lira and Pedro Acosta. One of them, I think it was Lira, was cut around the corner of the eye, just outside it, and it must have ripped open a vein because blood was really gushing out … almost spurting.

    The fight went the full 10, and by the end of it the front side of his white trunks were literally red. Like you could have taken a snapshot and people would have assumed he was wearing red trunks.

    Lira, the hometown boy in Chicago, won a 10-round UD and as I recall it the verdict was just. Acosta couldn’t do much with him but hope they stopped it due to blood loss.
