Half of these so-called 'conspiracy theories' are just stories that are probably not true but they are not conspiracies. A conspiracy is a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful. Jake LaMotta throwing a fight to get a title shot is a conspiracy theory that turned out to be true. Sonny Liston being killed by the mob is a conspiracy theory that may or may not be true. Evander Holyfield take PEDs and obviously not acting alone is a conspiracy theory I think the majority of people (myself included) believe to be true.

Well, there was a definite and proven conspiracy with the ABC-televised US championship tournament in the 1980s. Don King ran it and Ring Magazine rankings were manipulated under his order (via bribes/under the table pay) as the tournament was based on those. Results were made up and attributed to fighters to have their rankings rise and get them in the tournament. Bottom line, certain managers who had ties to King happened to handle the fighters involved in the tournament. If you weren’t a King-controlled fighter, either you weren’t going to get in or you’d get robbed so you didn’t stay in. Malcolm “Flash” Gordon’s underground publication “Tonight’s Boxing Program” broke the story and took down the tournament.
