Junior middleweight Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is just 20, but he is already a major star in Mexico. His next frontier? America.



Golden Boy Promotions executives Richard Schaefer and Oscar De La Hoya have the stats memorized and revel in them. They talk about how Alvarez regularly draws massive ratings for his fights on Mexican television network Televisa, which covers his every move.



For one recent bout, Schaefer said Televisa officials told him that Alvarez drew an audience of about 60 million people, similar to what the Mexican national soccer team gets for its games.

 

:yep Most definitely. One thing that I have noticed when it comes to other countries and their boxing most of them do very very high numbers and it is their version of the Super Bowl in the U.S. I mentioned this already in this thread way back when, but in Germany, Japan, Denmark, etc. etc. all of their big fights do massive numbers.

 

Alright, so I guess the station I was watching exaggerated the numbers a bit, but still Canelo had about 60 million viewers tune in to watch him and Hatton go at it.

Another week and people have boxing on the mind. On twitter yet again Andy Lee was trending (very surprising :huh ) Sergio Martinez and Miguel Cotto were trending as well. :good

 

I think it's good. It won't be boring and also the fight will end pretty quick I think. Not to mention, Mosley is a big name and the casual fan will think (if he does get to be onesided) that Pacquiao is the greatest ever for beating Mosley who is a name opponent. And they will be surprised to see it onesided because Mosley is a name opponent.

 

Just bumping this thread up. Haven't really been checking out what the buzz has been the past month, but decided to check today and even a PPV fight...not a real big PPV fight with a lot of buzz. Both Marcos Maidana, and Erik Morales still were trending topics on Google and Twitter.

 

So, I hear Kirkland also for a quick minute was a trending topic on the twitter as well.

 

Another week and yet boxing continues to trend. Ho-hum people continue to watch boxing on TV and search for It during and after the fights. But according to sheep boxing is dying and what not. Ho-hum.

Victor Ortiz, Andre Berto, and JuanMa were trending topics.

 

Just saw on Sportcenter some highlights of the fight. The guys were goofy and didn't know WTF was going on, and the highlights weren't much, but hey I guess it's the thought that counts.
