I don't exactly consider a debutant an ambassador of the sport. :yep

That falls more under the "MMA-related" or "viral video celebrity/circus act" headings than really counting as ESPN covering the sport of boxing.

Cool about the FNF replay, though.

HBO's latest "Ask the Fighter" clip with Ortiz was done with Sports Illustrated journalist Chris Mannix. Is the official magazine giving it any coverage? If so, this is a step in a good direction.

The "Unfinished Business" PPV was also trailered during the MLB World Series, and has had a nearly minute-long spot running several times a day on CNN of all things. :blood

Around The Horn Playing part of Pac interview with Kimmel. The question was regarding Kimmel's idea of "Winner take all" which Pac agreed to. Obviously a silly and unrealistic concept, but boxing is being talked about in the mainstream because of it.

So you know what's a little disturbing?

Spending your whole morning at work on a boxing forum, then head off at lunch for your constitutional...look down...and there's a full-page boxing article staring you in the face. :blood

    Not pleasant subject matter either.

At least the Metro - a notorious ****-bag publication (who often have faulty fact-checking AND print early editions based on information that cuts off very early the previous evening) - thankfully didn't publish the false rumors that were spreading virally over the net last night that he'd already passed.

I have to give them some credit here, giving an ATG some respect. If it was anyone but Joe (or someone of equal stature, like Ali himself) they probably wouldn't have devoted a page. Boxing gets mentioned a handful of times a year, and it's usually tiny little paragraph blurb in the corner of the sports page without any image or headline.

    Nice one there IB.

Yahoo's front page online currently has an article about Pacquiao and his mother, who will be postponing surgery to see him fight on Saturday.

Joe Frazier is apparently more popular than most current boxers. It's been a while since major sports networks talked about boxing on TV and the radio. Last time, was DLH v Mayweather. Sure, you'll hear of a mention of Floyd Mayweather and to a lesser extent Pacquiao every now and then but it's not what I would call mainstream. Women's basketball gets more coverage than boxing.
