Casual fans seeing Mayweather being mentioned along side Pacquiao's name. "Hmm who is this Mayweather they are talking about".

Ward vs. Froch was just advertised on a preseason basketball game! (Cavaliers @ Pistons)

    A full thirty second spot.

So NBC is starting its own boxing series, correct? That's great news!

More details on new NBC Sports Network fight series

    By Karl Freitag

Jon Miller President of Programming and NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network, Main Events promoter Kathy Duva and Hall of Fame matchmaker Russell Peltz today discussed the launch of the new NBC Sports Network “Fight Night” series which debuts January 21 in Philadelphia with a matchup between Philly heavyweight contender “Fast” Eddie Chambers and former WBO heavyweight champion Sergei “White Wolf” Liakhovich.

Jon Miller: We’re excited to get our team back involved with boxing again. It had a long and storied history with NBC Sports. Back in the early nineties, we would do as many as 20 or 30 fights per year on NBC and we think there is an opportunity here with the right matchmaking and the right positioning to possibly reintroduce boxing to free over-the-air and, in this case, cable television.

    Kathy Duva:
The fighter’s purses for this show are going to exceed the rights fee. It’s not like we’re holding back….our goal here is to make great fights so NBC is going to want to do more of them.

Russell Peltz: I’m especially happy that the series is opening up in Philadelphia, which is still one of the best fight towns in the country and also the fact that we’re not in a casino ballroom, we’re in a live arena and we’ve got a Philadelphia fighter in each of the two main fights in a 50/50 matchup.

The NBC Sports Network (currently named VERSUS) is also planning boxing shows for March 24, June 16 and December 8.

Chisora's professed contrition popped up in two unexpected places other than ESB (or any other boxing site) for me today:

    • on my "Daily Briefing" (mostly Associated Press headlines & blurbs) on my Android device

    • on a screen in the elevator of my office building, on the "Captivate Network".

With the exception of "Friday Night Fights" on ESPN, please list all the current recurring (non PPV) Boxing shows on Network and/or Cable TV??

Off the top of my head, MMA has:

    MMA Live (ESPN)
    Inside MMA (HD Net)
    UFC (Fox)
    UFC Tonight (Fuel)
    UFC Ultimate Insider (Fuel)
The Ultimate Fighter (Moving from Spike to Fuel) *Now on what? it's 13th season? How many seasons did "the contender" last?
    HDNet Fights (HDNet)

There is a trend, whether you care to admit it or not.

There is more boxing on North American cable then MMA. I'm not gonna bother typing up all the stations because you're a ****.

Fuel is also the lowest rated cable channel in the US. Fact.

Not "events" asswipe, actual weekly shows on nationally broadcast channels. Fuel is a relatively new channel, UFC struck a better deal than Spike so they are moving.

Oh yeah, there is also FOX. Is there any boxing on a network these days? NBC says they are working on something, I'l bet you $100 that UFC on Fox kills it in ratings

    Let's hear them

I think pacquiao and mayweather's respective bouts, mayweather's comment about jeremy lin, the brawl in argentina and the multiple fiascos revolving around klitschko-chisora over the weekend are what has caused this resurgence. I hope boxing can ride the wave and continue grabbing media attention, but it's unlikely unless something else arises. controversy sells
