Marquez Diaz was on the frontpage of Yahoo for a while today. For such a relatively obscure fight (not boxing's biggest names) that's pretty good.

Alright, some updates. Mike Jones, when he recently fought (****. That was already a month ago?) USA Today had a nice article talking about him. Also, courtesy of Max Kellerman, Devon Alexander was front page of NY Daily News.

I'll update it some more later in the week.

Ok, this is from 2009. From ESPN, the most searched sports topics. Why ESPN? Well, all sports fans, Baseball, (American) Football, Football, Basketball, whatever go to ESPN. So, where might the hardcore or casual sports fan go to? That's right ESPN. With that said where might the hardcore or casual sports fan, that is interested in Boxing might go to? Of course, ESPN. So, without further adu the 2009 top ESPN searches by month:

    January: Boxing 6th
    February: Boxing 5th
    March: Boxing 11th
    April: Boxing 4th
May: Boxing 1st, Floyd Mayweather 13th, Manny Pacquiao 15th
    June: Boxing 3rd
    July: Boxing 5th
    August: Boxing 6th
    September: Boxing 4th
    October: Boxing 16th
    November: Boxing 6th
December: N/A (N/A means I can't find the list for December, that doesn't mean Boxing didn't rank in the top 25.)

    Overall for 2009:
Boxing was the 2nd most searched sports topic on ESPN.

So, yet again I say. All those Boxing haters, or to the people that listen to what some talking head on the TV says that "Boxing is dying" don't let them brainwash you. Boxing isn't dying. I'll throw up some more statistics in the next few days.

Yeah but that's misleading because the major sports have quicklinks at the top of the page but boxing doesn't. People don't need to search for NBA or NFL because it comes up on the page anyway.

True, but if Boxing was a dead sport nobody would/should be searching for it.

TV Ratings for Abraham-Taylor, in Germany the fight had a peak market share of 40 percent. In Denmark, the fight had a 37.4 percent.

TV Ratings for Koki Kameda vs Daisuke Naito fight had a 52 percent peak in Japan.

TV Ratings for Mikkel Kessler-Gusmyl Perdomo had a 72 percent market share in Denmark.

TV Ratings for Diaz-Marquez I had about 20 million watching it down in Mexico.

Lucian Bute, who is a superstar in Canada/Montreal has single handedly made Boxing into a major sport. His bout with Alejandro Berrio in 2007 drew an outstanding 1.5 million viewers. Not to mention his fights over in Romania draw millions and millions of viewers as well. Also, as a note his fights always sell out, and not only do they sell out, but the tickets fly off the market like they were U2 tickets, in a matter of days the tickets sell out.

I'll throw out a lot more numbers illustrating my point in the next few days as well.

I can tell you for a fact, that boxing in Denmark has never been more in the news than it is now.

I don't doubt it. Just looking over some of the ratings a lot of these fights, even outside Denmark, get amazing ratings. I might move to Denmark in the next few years. lol. :D

When there's a good fight, boxing is all people talk about.

I went to the library yesterday and even the librarian was on his computer watching the Pascal vs Dawson weigh-in, and there were like 3 or 4 people who were leaning over the counter to watch it.

I was listening to sports radio and they asked people what was catching their attention most this weekend,

    Golf (tiger woods)
    Football (CFL Montreal vs Toronto)
Tennis (ATP Masters series in Montreal)
    or Boxing (Pascal vs Dawson)

Almost everyone said BOXING except one guy who said Tiger Woods and some ****** who said WWE MegaSLAM or something.

I just went to the google search engine and just for shits and giggles I wanted to see what just other people (not necessarily sports fans, that's why I went to google) were searching for and to my surprise Chad Dawson was the 20th most search for the past 3 hours or so, and Pascal also peaked out at 52nd. That is damn good I would say and caught me by surprise.

Yep, very true. Al is 100% right. The sport just needs it's coverage in mainstream TV....in the U.S. that is. I'm glad that a figure, such as Al, brought this up. Boxing has been doing a great job these past few years. Boxing has its problems, but that is like all other sports (MLB, NFL, NCAAF, etc.) in the U.S. and around the world. Boxing isn't dying, it just isn't getting the coverage it deserves...which is why I've started this thread because I got sick and tired of hearing people saying Boxing is "dying" or some nonsense like that. Anyway, that is a great find IB.

Also, forgot to add and that vid reminded me, the Shane Mosley-Antonio Margarito fight had 20,000+ in attendance at the Staples Center. That is the largest crowd to see any event at the Staples Center.
