Boxing if the Soviet Union had not colapsed

Lets say that the Soviet Union didn’t collapse and all the fighters from former Communist countries remained in the amateurs.

What would the implications have been for boxing.

Would the state of the heavyweight division now be so bad that we could get a Rock 4 type scenario where amateur boxing was able to challenge the supremacy of professional boxing?

 

I'd still be able to pronounce some names and tell the fighters apart.
Black guys with proper names like 'Bruce', 'James', 'Mike' and 'Buster' ....

'Chris' will do, not 'Krzyszof' ..

.. I remember the days when 'Czyz' was tricky...

... these Slavic types all look the same to me.

I can think of a few amateur fighters who could of done that. Of the top of my head...

Kostya Tszyu (Such a complete amatuer)

Tofello Stevenson

Rigondeux

Lomanchenko

 

Lennox would have reigned for longer. Toney may have had more significance at HW. Haye would probably go undisputed

 

Vitali and Wladimir K would have emgigrated to Germany.

 

It is unlikley that they would have got to this side of the iron curtain.
