no, selfish, corrupt sanctioning bodies are worse than the promoters. The lack of a national boxing commission, at least in the US, is also a problem. The states don't bat an eye.
He is a relentless anti Bush poster. Wich is fine, but he would roll in and hit 4-5 threads that are totally unrelated to politics with some cut and past **** damn near daily. It seems his work is done.
Boxing is a business, for the promoters and the fighters. Guys like Sturm and Abraham are making major major money right now. They have no need to fight yet, until one of them is ready to step away from the sport. They can make all their money now fighting the guys they "have" to fight, and then make the big fight happen when it's time. Make huge money, one guy fights on, the other probably counts his money on the beach. That's how things are in the higher weights, they don't have to take huge risks to make huge paydays.. a lot of the lower weights HAVE to fight other names to make money. That's how the business works, and it works that way because the fans allow. We vote with our dollars, and a lot of Germans will step up and pay to see Sturm fight anyone put in front of him. They might pay more to see him fight AA, but then whoever loses might miss out on bigger money later. Sucks as a fan, but can't say I wouldn't do the same thing as a fighter. They get punched in the face, not me.. they deserve every dollar they get, however they get it.
the problem is the business plan fails all but the top few names. When ESPN cuts out one of their 2 shows, Versus has been invisible in 09 (although supposedly coming back), Solo Boxeo crumbles, replaced by Azteca which is in far fewer households, it's not good. At some point, the promoters need to take a step back to take 2 steps forward. Look at how baseball salaries have plummeted. It's about market value. They have the ability to expand the market, but they aren't forward thinking. Not every fight needs to be a superfight, but the sport has been and will continue to be in dire need of exposure to grow. To grow, quality fights need to be made that are ready available to the public. To make that possible, fighters and promoters are going to need to realize they aren't worth as much as they'd like to be at this point.
well, at the end of the day no one is EVER going to talk about "what a great war" sturm had with <insert name> if the people in germany know hes a 3rd rate champion he feeds on the bottom of the ocean.....i would think they would get sick of paying ANYTHING to watch him fight johnny garbage. i would think they would DEMAND him fight someone. I am also astonished he can look at himself in the mirror as a fighter and continue to not step up and make something happen. if hes the GOD in germany like you are making him out to be..then hes his own shot caller...if he wanted a big fight he could get it.... business or no business it ruins boxing and thats why no one outside of germany know who he is....other than the fact hes the guy whos known to fight another 14-0 guy from japan thats a middleweight......that hasnt ever even fought anyone in the top 15...but yet he somehow gets a crack.....utter bull**** :twisted:

boxing is shady but I don't think the mafia has a hand in it as much as they used to be. Ever since legalized betting overseas basically takes the mafia out of the equation.
