uve got to be an animal in the ring. u cant punk out when the going gets rough or constantly apologize for when u do something dirty. his mind seems to be in a million places. its a shame because physically, hes a great fighter, but mentally hes all ****ed up. with the right mentality i think he would have beaten the **** out of Maidana and possibly beat Lopez on points. a fighter his age should not have that many L's on his resume, especially in the fashion that he lost those fights. i see it as 3 strikes and your out. GBP cant envest money in a guy that cant deliver on the big stage. no shame in losing to floyd, but being upsetted twice? cant help but feel bad for him. but i think he should hang em up and go to college or something. his career is finished.
You would maybe let him off if it was the first time but this is 3 times now he's checked out of fights. I mean a broken jaw is terrible but there was only a few rounds left and other fights have fought through that. Not saying it was the worst quit ever, just that with his previous it's obvious he just doesn't have what it takes when someone fights back.
He can take a good amount of shots without losing confidence, considering the opposition he's faced, but I can't help but agree with your assessment. Ortiz can give us good fights and beat all but the very top fighters of the divisions surrounding his weight class, but he isn't mentally prepared to give 100%. The fight with Berto was an impressive show of will, but psyching yourself up to take the punishment one time in order to revive your career is not the same thing as being able to go out there and risk it all to get the W each time out.
The number of Ls so far in his career shouldn't be held against him. He's an exciting fighter that has been thrown in with really good fighters. Chances of a loss here and there are high. But yeah, he is a bit of a loose cannon. You can't predict what he's gonna' do. Reminds me of Golota in a lot of ways.
earlier I was giving him the benefit of the doubt, I mean he did break his jaw, but the more I think about it the more I cannot believe this kid quit.
Ortiz doesn't like getting hit yet he fights in a way that ensures that he will get hit. Time to change your style ortiz if you want to continue in this sport.
You know the worst thing that makes me the most angry,is that he doesnt deserve his position while hundreds of talented kids might never get discovered!
Losses dont mean ****, Ortiz is exciting to watch, and fights good opposition. At the end of the day he needs to be able to fight again. Abraham fighting on like in those pics is courageous but it also runs the risk of ending his career.
the way he "quit" against PEDersen was the worst one imo, he's was beating the **** out of him and then just fought **** this and gave up.
they do mean **** when ur opposition is supposed to lose. he gets beat by the unknown. one for a vacant belt and the other as a tune up. maybe he should continue fighting, but hes a quitter and never will truly be elite.
