Boxing Misconceptions - Part 1: Floyd Mayweather fights boring?

I think most people call his fights boring - cause we never see him hurt - hit clean - or anything close to it. Most people want to see back and forth action or a massive beat down. He's very cautious - something like B-Hop. Defense and Safety comes first for him - everything else follows that.

On top of that - he's a counter-puncher by nature. So, while waiting for the other guy to make a mistake - he talks to Jim & Larry Merchant - think about what he wants for dinner - what he'll be doing the next day - ect. Most of the time - whom ever he's fighting is reluctant to throw a lot of punchs for the fact of getting countered. Once this starts happening - the fight becomes boring.

What he did to Gatti was sick - but what he did to Deigo was special - that's Mayweather at his best.

 

His performance against Gatti and Corrales is a casual fans dream performance to watch but he will never be able to look that good against real top competition who are not tailor made for his style. He made both of those guys look like ediots that night LOL. He embarresed them both.

 

Floyd is a boring fighter and its not hard to tell.He's had some exciting fights of course but thats due to his opponents style not his.

His two arguably best offensive wins are against Corrales and Gatti right. Now name one fight frome either of these fighters that was boring.

Thats because he whooped them right? it might be boring because these guys are no where near his level

 

I acutaly like all his fights. The DLH fight was boring but he had to play defense when DLH is 166 and Mayweather is 148. If you like boxing then you cant say Mayweather is boring, hes a true boxer. everybody likes a slugfest but you cant get that every fight.

 

It's not fair, bordering on ignorant, to say all of Floyd's fights have been boring. But the overstatement between now and a possible Pacquiao fight is only going to get worse.

Why? He has the misfortune now to be compared to a guy who probably hasn't staged an even remotely boring fight in over six years.

 

its all depends on who he matches up with. mayweather fights end up being good against all out agressive fights like hatton, corrales, gatti, n'dou, etc. against guys like dlh, baldomir and so on, those fights are gonnna bore you to death.
