That doesn't make any sense at all. If your right foot is forward you are in a southpaw stance....it would probably be best if you put a pic or a vid to explain what you are trying to say.
He speaks english fine, but i find it weird that he wants me to lead with my right foot while in a orthodox stance...I don't know if he is just testing me, but it feels weird and awkward...
You get it...he wants me in my orthodox stance, but with my right foot in front of my left...makes no sense to ME either. I haven't trained boxing in 10 years, but was ALWAYS taught that in a orthodox stance, the left foot is the lead foot...like I told Leon, this guy seems to know what his ****...he trained the Seth guy that KO'd Kimbo Slice...but this is confusing me. I can't figure out if he is trying some Mr. Myagi ****, or if...I don't know. I haven't had a WHOLE lot of boxing training, but out of the 6 or so trainers I've had, NONE of them ever had me lead with the right foot in a orthodox stance... ...but like I said, perhaps he is just testing me.
NO! The other guys I watch don't do that! That's the reason why I think that he is probably just testing me in some sort of way, to see if I question him or whatever, or to teach me to learn in an awkward way, so the correct way becomes second nature...I'm not sure, but this is his gym, so I'm trying to be respectful and not blow off what he says...
It's not that he wants me to go southpaw, which would be the right side of your body leading...he isn't telling me to change which side of my body leads, just that one foot!
my former trainer, taught me the square. Its like your 'base' for balance. He always corrected the hell outta me if I ever moved my feet outta the square. He's VERY old school.
so with what he's making you do say you want to go forward you would step with the right foot first instead of the left like what most orthodox guys do:huh
Yeah, that's what this guy does with me! Corrects me everytime! I'm no noob...I've been watching boxing since I'm 6, and trained for a few years, and I'm accustomed to letting my left foot lead in an orthodox stance...yet, every time my left wanders in front of my right (in my orthodox stance) he yells "Tony! Get that right foot in front!" So, obviously, being that he "corrects" me every time, HE is either testing me, or really thinks the right foot should lead, even in the orthodox....here is a video... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JW2w5BKE-0[/ame] As you can see, I'm a righty, and my left is ALWAYS leading, despite my rawness and awkwardness... Anyway, as ****ed up as I look, imagine how much more awkward I'd look with my right foot in front of my left, yet, THIS IS WHAT THIS GUY IS TELLING ME TO DO!
No, no, no...when moving forward, I still step with the left foot first, but the right foot is still supposed to be in front...does that make any sense to you? Trust me when I say this guy is a credible trainer, but what do you think, Leon? Is he probably just teaching me some un-orthodox methods in order to better me? It's like when my uncle used to make me play basketball with a flat ball and a ****ed up hoop...if you can get good using **** like that, once you use the real thing, it should be much easier...I'm thinking that perhaps - that's what this guy is doing regarding my boxing stance.
