There was one theory I heard about Roberto Duran going into the tank because of money issues.

He didn’t fight for over a year after the awful rubber match with Leonard. He was matched up against Pat Lawlor on the undercard of Tyson-Ruddock 1. Lawlor was a big underdog. He won when Duran quit from a shoulder injury.

The theory is that Duran’s guys bet big money on the underdog Lawlor and collected a nice payday from it.

George Foreman's comeback was orchestrated and manipulated by Salton Inc. The makers of the now famous Foreman Grill. A great publicity stunt that had George earn more money from the grill than all his boxing purses combined.

No. I never went for that one and besides, the Police caught the Towpath Killer in the end I believe.
The evidence that saw Mills' death ruled as suicide is flimsy and circumstantial and the Met back then was riven with corruption.

Regarding Duran, I don't think he had to go into the tank to lose to Lawlor. After moving up to 147, you didn't know which version of Duran would show up. He could be very average when he wasn't up for a fight. His win over Zeferino Gonzalez was beyond lackluster. His loss to Kirkland Laing was embarrassing. But when faced with Leonard (first fight), Cuevas, Davey Moore, Iran Barkley, he had something to prove and he responded in a big way.

Having seen some of Duran's post-lightweight "minor" fights, I was not shocked when he quit against Lawlor.

I am convinced that each alphabet organization has a web portal where promoters can add top 10 rankings or titles to a cart and check out.

Brilliant. That conspiracy theory is quite juicy, almost delicious. One could almost sink his teeth into that one. Ba-bum-bum

Tread lightly on this matter my friend. I cannot go into any detail, but trust me, never speak of this again.

Why thank you good sir. I am quite proud of that one myself. Made it special, just for this thread, on the spot. Now watch it catch on. Lets add a little IBF ranking tampering and viola! Nobody really believes that Moorer KO was legit, right?
