I agree that Joyi will beat Segura. Not wanting to derride anyone but he kinda got Calderon at the perfect time. I'd be surprised if he fought again to be honest. As for the others..... Hopkins SD12 Cunningham - in a stinker Bute TKO12 Martinez - close fight, Bute gets Martinez outta there whilst slightly ahead Mayweather UD12 Cotto - Cotto gets badly banged up but hears the last bell Marquez UD12 Bradley - too smart Lopez KO5 Fana - just too good Not sure about the others.
All fair points. I rambled but I'm glad you saw my point about stylistic differences between the two despite some obvious and important similarities. I fancy Donaire to look amazing for five or six rounds but think Montiel is the tougher guy and equally smart. He is not going to allow Donaires textbook combinations and punch-picking to overwhelm him IMO. I expect Nonito to get timed and shook in about the 7th, and for the rounds to get closer as Mkntiel wears him down as he figures him out. I expect a very close fight and a tight decision either way, with Montiel possibly causing a late kd. If Donaire gets tagged and comes through it, maintains his composure and shows the punch selection I've seen from his this far, I will believe into the hype. I wanna see how he operates when the man in front of him stops him from doing his stuff. If he despatches of Montiel like he did Siderenko or Vic a few years back, then I'm instantly impressed. IMO this Montiel is the best opponent Nonito has faced this far (Vic best days were Kirilov and Mijares at super fly IMO) and I think he's the first one who can really push him, more so than say, an overweight Concepcion or average Martinez were able to. I'd prefer Fernando to win, I just like him more, but more than anything it's the kind of fight I just like to see. With this following Bradley-Alexander the P4P landscape alters dramatically in a week, with four guys all looking to cement their reputations against the only guyscapable of doing that for them.
Montiel could definitely stop Donaire too. Donaire, being totally honest, is untested in critical areas for a boxer. I don't think Darch located his mandible too often so he's never really been tested by a big hitter. I don't think he's ever been in a tough fight late on, its been largely plain sailing whereas here he's against a guy where we'd be surprised if he's stopped early and has the experience to know how to push Donaire's buttons. It's kind of a Lopez coming into the Mtagwa fight situation, he'd fought a big puncher but was never hit by him (PDL), and had never been taken into deep water by anyone. Montiel can go forward, which he'll probably have to for the majority of the time as Donaire has obvious physical advantages across the board, but he can pick a counter with the best of them. Picking that fight is a mugs game. I guess I'm hoping Donaire proves the real deal because he has the potential to be more of a superstar for the little men, and has more potential to make it into the higher weight divisions.
That was always my thought on the Vic fight. His accuracy did not wait for Darchs awkwardness and he outclassed him and quickly stopped him. It showed off his attributes but didn't show other facets of his game, such a his ability to come through rough patches, and what his plan B is if he finds himself unable to keep his range/is not so sharp and cannot get his counters off. If he wins in Vic-esque fashion (highly unlikely IMO) it again demonstrates his obvious talent, but we'll still fail to learn about his true fighting DNA.
If he's good enough to smash Montiel to pieces he's pretty special offensively and physically. Probably so good none of that matters at this point as nobody will test him until he reaches feather at least. I don't envisage it. Any kind of win for Donaire is great here. A win where he looks spectacular, or a win where he shows some grit and beats a top, top class opponent.
I was gonna say the same thing about 126. I imagine if he wins this he'll fight the (fairly irrelevant this far) Vasquez Jr at 122 ten move up to face the top dogs in Arums stable@126. Although I'm not sure I'd pick him against Gamboa regardless of him beating Montiel impressively and tearing through Vasquez Jr. This is a moot point anyway. As aforementioned, I find it inconceivable that Donaire dominates Montiel in this way....well, fairly certain anyway
