Bradley ducking the 140lb division: Is it set in stone, or can he get back?

He simply did Aqueer Khan a favor by allowing Aqueer to be called the man for about another year until he met Garcia, Aqueer should be grateful

Bradley didn’t duck 140, but he did duck Amir Khan. The notion that he fought Pacquiao instead, doesn’t hold up. Because he fought Pacquiao a year later. In between then he sat inactive and fought Casamayor. There was nothing stopping Bradley from fighting once more under Shaw against Khan – like he agreed to – and then going off and signing with Arum to participate in the fights on exactly the same time frame he ended up being on.

 

Honestly think he should keep his ass parked at 147, Avlarado and Rios will both be moving up soon, Marquez is there already I think Tim will be okay at this weight. TBH I dont think he can make 140 anymore, especially when you consider he was fighting at 150 as an amateur

The problem with the statement Bradley ducked Khan is this. Bradley was looking for a Mayweather or Pacquiao bout at the time. Khan at that time was considered an even-ish bout (even though I thought Bradley would have won). Losing to Khan at that stage would have lost him the opportunity to face either of the main two, Bradley was more than likely already in discussions to move to Top Rank for the Pacquiao bout at this point. This is why I wouldn't exactly class it as an outright duck. He was looking at a bout that possessed greater gains and greater rewards, along with it being much more dangerous. So running out his contract (1 bout) before switching to Top Rank and getting said bout is fine IMO.

Also, given how Khan pulled a similar move when Bradley wanted the Khan bout, I'd say neither ducked per say. They just weren't exactly ready for the bout at those particular times.

In terms of the thread, at this point, I'd prefer Bradley at 140lbs, but he now has a belt at 147lbs...so...I wouldn't say he was ducking the division.

 

That's a fair argument. It's still a fight that needed to be made before anyone could sit around and say that Tim cleaned out the division.

 

If Bradley was GB fighter than a move back down to 140 would make sense.

 

Oh definitely, wouldn't say he cleaned out the division, that rarely happens anymore. But he came very close to with 2 unifications to his name.

 

I'm a Mayweather fan who gave Floyd credit for being the unquestioned best at 130, but never considered what he did "cleaning out the division"; not with Casamayor and Freitas still out there using his name to sell tickets.

Cleaning out a division is hard to do and is something that no longer really occurs in the current genre. Circumstances that may or may not even be the fault of the champ often keep unification type matches from ever happening.

The Khan fight was there to be made and wasn't, though.
