At 6 foot tall, Brian is a big bloke, and can see why he is moving up if he is having problems making 154. He has heart and a high workrate, but he wasn't that heavy a hitter at 154. For this reason, I worry about his punch power at 160, and if he possesses the ability to hurt a natural middleweight like a Nick Blackwell or a John Ryder. Adam Etches, Eamon O'Kane, John Ryder, Tommy Langford and Nick Blackwell would all be good litmus tests for Brian Rose at 160. Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr completely school Rose, IMO. Another key to Rose being successful at 160 will be patience. When at 154, he expressed no desire to drop down to European level after Andrade drubbed him. This time, he has to work his way back to European then fringe world level, and may become frustrated if the right fights don't get made for him. Moreover, should he fail against any of the names I've mentioned -- or even against someone like Sergey Khomitsky -- he will have to settle for being an industrious, dependable Domestic or European-level fighter: he simply won't have any choice in the matter.
Rose's main problem being, he seems to think he's a significantly better fighter than he actually is. That's the sort of demeanour he has, and it won't endear him to very many people in the long run.
That's true. He's a British, fringe-Euro level fighter who somehow thinks he's up there with the world's best.
I don't mind Rose, I see why some people turn there nose up after the way he reacted to the first Jones fight... but sometimes you have to look at it from the point of view that boxing is this man's source of income and how he supports his family. He felt he was stopped too early and incorrectly, without being allowed to bite down on his gumshield and give it a go back..... ffs imagine Ian John Lewis ref'd Gatti v Ward or Corrales v Castillo?!?!?! Yeah he shouldn't have kicked off the way he did, but he had a lot on the line that was just thrown out the window. Thankfully he got the rematch and was able to get the victory. Personally, I'm not sure of how well he'll do at MW. Can't really see him going past domestic level (of which there is no shame)... I don't think he has the pop in his shots to keep a lot of guys off and he has been hurt himself a few times at 154.
