I was thinking JMM would be the toughest fight but I see how Guzman might be the worst match up stylistically, but I dunno.
Edwin's timing and quick counter-punches would probably show up against Guzman and surprise the hell out of people but many don't realize he can do that! lol
You have to admit though Jeff, it would be the most likely scenario. If Valero is to maintain his streak he'd be better suited at fighting guys who come to fight rather than movers. I don't agree with you that Valero is that fast, not when he gets full power into his shots anyway. He does flurry very fast some time, but they don't seem to have as much effect, and it's those flurries that would give Marquz great oppurtunities to counter Edwin. As I say, one step at a time; I wonder what Sweet Pea thinks of the Soto-Valero matchup? Rather than Guzman. Personally, I think Soto will stop Valero around the 8th-9th round, though Valero will have his moments. Then, with Valero who knows? I wouldn't be completely crazy to suggest a stoppage for Valero wthin two or three rounds, as someone like Soto walking into Valero's (apparent) power is a recipe for disaster. As I say, I'm still not totally convinced by Valero, but Soto vs. Valero would definitely bring excitement, and that's something we all want to see!
If Valero beats Guzman, then no one could ever doubt him again.. That victory would prove what a complete fighter he is and he could overcome any styles.. If he can beat a slickster/runner like guzman, he can beat almost anybody..
Agreed. But he may want to beat some top calibre 'fighters' first, and then take on a big challenge like that later. It will be a shame if he 'lost his mojo' after being whitewashed by someone like Guzman, which is a distinct possibility. I think he should fight Katsidis first and allow Soto to have a warm-up at 135 (he hasn't been at that weight in a while now) If not Katsidis then Escebedo, who would again pose a step-up and a different sort of challenge, also, Escebedo has never been stopped and is a fluid boxer-puncher who has had an apparent resurgance against (an admittedly past-prime) Hernandez. Then the Soto fight will be even bigger (having Soto fight at 135 on the undercard of Valero's next fight is something I can definitely see Arum doing)
That's exactly why I want him to fight Guzman. I seriously think he could put Guzman to sleep. He's relentless and Guzman can't run forever and he lacks power to back off Edwin! I just see Guzman playing around on the ropes like usual but getting starched while he does it! He would probably get credit for being the aggressor the whole fight which we know judges like to score for, as this is why the Hyena Barrios fight was close on the cards and Barrios is nothing like Valero. :rasta
Valero is still comically overrated. And for what, beating Antonio ****ing Pitalua?atsch Put him in there with a real technician, any elite, and see what happens. The guy is far too limited. He lacks the balance that a similar winging banger like Cuevas had that allowed him to be so successful. I don't have much faith in Guzman anymore, the guy has disgraced the sport, but he still has the ability to give Valero a first class boxing lesson.
If only he was South American. Was Roberto Duran South American? Is Celestino Caballero South American? Is Carlos Hernandez South American?
