Shannon Briggs reportedly suffered concussion and fractured cheekbones during his lop-sided defeat to Vitali Klitschko.
The American showed remarkable resilience against the dominant Ukrainian, becoming only the third man to take the WBC champion the distance.
However, the 38-year-old paid for his bravery and was immediately hospitalised following the bout, and was expected to undergo surgery to his face on Sunday.
    Meanwhile, Klitschko

and add the Briton's WBA title to his own and the IBF and WBO belts currently held by his brother Wladimir.
"I would like to knock out Haye so that we can claim the only belt missing from the family's collection," he said.
"There is no-one in the world apart from my brother who can beat me, I am the strongest.
"I still have plenty of energy, and in a few months, I will be ready to get back in the ring."
Klitschko's agent said that they had made a generous offer to the Haye camp to try and convince him to step into the ring.
"We proposed that each fighter would receive 50 percent of the world rights, it is a fair offer," said Bernd Bonte.

    Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should have been stopped earlier. Hope he recovers well and glad it's not more serious.

    He's got a broken face?

Although, it would have been nice if he had tried to make a fight, and the referee should maybe interveened considering he wasn't doing anything just standing, taking punishment, he deserves massive props for going all the way, particuarly with his ashthma. Hope he's fine soon.

    Dan R on ESPN..

"he is in Hamburg's Eppendorf University Hospital with a broken left orbital bone in his face, a broken nose and a torn left biceps, Empire Sports and Entertainment promoter Greg Cohen told ESPN.com.

"He was banged up pretty bad," Cohen said, shortly after arriving back in New York on Sunday. "The CT scan came back normal, thank God. Shannon wants to get out of there as soon as possible, but he'll be there for a little bit longer. He's devastated. He really thought he was going to win."

Cohen said the biceps injury was the most severe.

"His biceps is a very serious injury and they have to do surgery, and he'll probably be there for a week," Cohen said. "It might require more than one surgery."

Cohen said rumors that Briggs, 38, had suffered a brain hemorrhage were not true and that he was resting at the hospital and had even joked around with him before he left Germany.

"I wouldn't be here [in New York] if he wasn't OK," Cohen said. "He was in intensive care after the fight for precautionary reasons. The injuries are not life-threatening. He's just banged up, but it's not life-threatening or very serious. Other than the injuries I described, everything else is OK.

"He walked out of the arena on his own. They wanted to put him on as stretcher, but he wouldn't let them. He's going to be fine."

Ive only saw the 10th...(someone posted it in the''was vitali really good or briggs really bad thread''

I hope that was the worst of the rounds as it was as one sided as you'll ever see, completely pointless carrying on.

Hope he makes a quick recovery, if people think he is a ***** or not, I personally don't want to see any fighter have to suffer a period of hospitalisation and long term health injuries...:yep

    Get well soon...:good

That was probably the worst one but it was generally how every round went. Vitali landing at will and Shannon having no success throughout the fight

Kid fractured my cheekbone when i was 10 in sparring (no headguard...just controlled stuff..), ***** elbowed me, tbh the adrenaline takes you through..i didn't feel it to much till i looked in mirror and it was black and blue, and suppose being a kid i recovered quicker then what a adult would. I was back in gym couple days later looking for revenge . But yeah it's painful for sure.

i used to get problems with my nose in sparring, had it broke a fair few times, i just found it really umcomfortable to box with it pissing with blood, a solid jab and it would be on its way:lol:
