Yeah to fit into one hour television slots. There is NO evidence - repeat, NO evidence - that injury is more likely in the 15th round than the first. In fact, a study was done which showed that most ring deaths, for example, occurred well before the championship rounds. Bring Back the Championship Rounds!
We will never go back to 15 rounds, and the orgs aren't going to go away, so get over it. A meaningful "unified" raking system would do a lot more for the sport than day dreaming about "the good ole days."
Just another ***** meaure, boy. What a ****in' pathetic , half-way solution ! Why the **** stop at fifteen rounds if both men can continue ? So's the 'judges' can render their crooked, subjective, bought-and-paid-for verdict ? Let both men fight till one can't (or won't ) come out of his corner or get up off the ****in' floor. Make the rounds five minutes each, and the KO count 60, not 10. Lift the sport back to its once great position of prestige. Enough with half-assed tinkering ! Grow some balls. The sport has turned into a game for sissies.:-(
There should be a union made up of the top boxers in the sport from each major promotion company. Certain questions can be brought up, such as which belts are worth keeping, which sanctioning fees are worth paying. Let there be one belt decided upon, in everyone's interest and that belt is it for all time. Of course you will still have your not so talented stragglers who might still pay sanctioning fees to the ABCs because they want to tell their friends and families that they have a world title. However if it is shown as meaningless by the big names then it might become so.
Fighter's safety was not the reason it was changed from 15 to 12 rounds, it was TV time and commercials.
