The only problem was he never knocked a decent heavyweight out with it

That has more to do with skill than raw power. Before Foreman stopped Fraizer, he still was a heavy hitter, but he just hadn't stopped a top tier opponent. But there's no evidence to suggest he hit "less hard" than before he beat Fraizer. He didn't suddenly become a hard puncher after he beat Fraizer, he was one all along.

But there just isnt the body of work to suggest Bruno was anything close to a one punch man or true power puncher...a one round kayo of coetzee is about it...he just didnt show it at world level...not against smith or witherspoon or lewis or mccall...of course he was winning or dead even in those fights he had a fine jab and boxing brain to fall back on rather than just power.the tyson fight sure he hurt mike...and yes a great kayo record against inferior foes...i liked the williams win that was impressive...but benn he just had more in his locker as a puncher...he stopped Barkley in one!! No one did that! Dewitt also was tough..His power got him out vs mclellan...

    Probably Lennox Lewis, eh?

I'm trying to think of a more neck-beardy, anorak-y answer though.

Bruno was a fearsome puncher. Ridiculously heavy handed that he could knock people out with jabs and arm punches, yet with the technique to deliver full bodied blows that'd lay fighters out on the canvas like they were shot.

Lennox was a much better boxer, and more effective at delivering his blows, but Bruno had the heavier hands, IMO.

Gary Mason was a similar puncher, and a very underrated HW puncher in general.

Between Jimmy Wilde, Hamed, Lewis or Benn. I'd edge it to Wilde p4p.

Nigel Benn was a very hard puncher. His looping punches were so hard and fast.

Pound for pound Hamed and Wilde are the obvious choices.

    McAvoy deserves a shout.

If you include Fitz then he surely would have to be top of the list.
