Enzo had a reputation as a big banger back then. In fact, the club in which I coach at now had a boxer (who shall remain nameless, though it's nobody well known) who was drawn to box Enzo (the head coach rolled his eyes at that one). After the first bell went, the head coach had turned away to walk down the ring steps and before he even sat down it was all over! Enzo knocked our lad out! :yikes
here's a swansea man who held marciano to a draw in 1943 in an amatuer contest.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6dlLM9327k
most know this but Fragomeni beat Haye in an olympic qualifier. DeGale has a win over Matt Koborov the russian geezer top rank are pushing big time. Kessler was undefeated as an amateur. Froch lost to dennis inkin Jean Pacal beat Paul Smith to win the commonwealth light middle gold. Michael Maguire beat Joe Murray but Murray went to the olympics
Nigel Wright beat Michael Lomax, lomax reveresed the decision in prizefighter. Don Boradhurst beat Matthew Marsh Stephen Smith has a win over Ahash Bhatia James DeGales beat Joe McNally Derek Chisora beat tom dallas Wayne Alexander beat Steven Bendall
Does this count: When Mayweather lost in the 96' Olympics (s/f) everyone was sure he had won, including the ref who even raised Mayweathers arm when the result was read before realising his mistake The guy who beat him Serafim Todorov, went on to get the silver, turned pro but retired with a 5-1 (1 KO) record
yeh mayweather was totally robbed in the olympics. he would of turned pro with DLH fan fair if he won the gold.
Mayweather was robbed almost as bad as Roy Jones was - the 1988 final must be the most shocking in sports history. On Akaash Bhatia - did he actually face somebody decent in the amateurs, is that what you are saying? He is yet to do so in the pro ranks.
Any truth in Boy George (yes that Boy George) used to box as an amateur? Other celebrity amateur boxers I can think of are Lee Evans, Zammo from Grange Hill, Norman Wisdom and Idi Amin.
ray winstone...terry from minder... zammo from grange hill was very good. boy george ??..wha??...boxing cakes in a bakery maybe ?
Oh yeah! Forgot them. What about that guy from "London's Burning", Glenn something? I'm sure he boxed too.
Same as he is now - just a big beast! Never saw too many of his amateur fights but I think he won a senior Welsh title. He seems to squander what talent he has though with his lack of discipline. Could easily lose a bit of weight (and that's coming from Mario Maccarinelli his trainer) and get in better shape. By all accounts he's an animal in the gym and is capable of handling Enzo in sparring. Don't know that as fact though, only what I've heard.
someone told me this Stephen Burke was a good amateur and will win Prizefighter Just kidding Jeff everyone has their off days :good
