Same, Macklin boxed for well but I dont think he was pro active enough to win the round (not that trying to be more proactive would have got him much further in the fight).

I felt in the close rounds Martinez was outlanding with the jab.

How would he take him apart? Martinez' hand speed is slower but he still uses his feet way more than Floyd does now. I think it would be a very interesting fight stylistically.

I believe both floyd and Pacquaio would beat him. He starts too slow and unlike Macklin and Barker I think both FM and MP would punish him for this by convinsingly racking up the rounds.

I also think going down to 154 or less would kill him, he looked pretty big tonight and he's a pretty lean guy. Losing 7+ pounds would not work out well for him imo esp. if there is a rehydration clause inserted.

Who the **** is he anyway? He called sergio "martinEEz" - he did an awful job last night. As did watt and, apparently, the hbo crew. They still haven't forgiven him for flattening Williams

Fair play to Buddy McGirt for realising when his fighter was done. He doesn't seem to put his fighters in any danger unlike a lot of coaches who are willing to keep throwing their fighters in the ring and let them take more punches than they need to.

It really was the perfect retirement. He had nothing left to give, wasn't going to turn it round at that stage, and had acquitted himself well until that stage.

Wow, another overmatched Brit wins no more than 2 rounds and as soon as he starts engaging in a fight he gets ko'd.

Both Barker and Macklin engaged in boring nip tuck fights where they were clearly losing rounds but the whole underdog story made it appear so good because they weren't ko'd. As soon as they were far enough behind and needed to engage more they got stopped.

Martinez is sloppy as hell. I don't know if he just isn't up for fighting such no names but he spends long periods not pushing the matter. His defence and punching are sloppy. No doubt he is fast and powerful but he isn't a technician. He will feast on guys who try to fight him but I doubt him against true technicians. Luckily for him the division is **** poor. I would honestly advise Floyd to make the move should he beat Cotto. I think he could do it from a technical perspective.

Too many boxers and pundits prefer someone to acquit themself like Barker and Macklin did. I completely disagree. If they are clearly not technically up to the challenge then I would much rather they go out there, put it all on the line and they get stopped a couple of rounds earlier but they test luck/fate.

Sergio's always been a slow-starter, no shock there last night. The issue for him is that his opponents are now trying to force him to make the fight, so he looks sloppier until he gets his timing and rhythm down.

Just watching the fight. No surprises. Macklin has always been incredibly average. Relies on perspiration to remain vaguely competitive and as a result is completely gassed going into the final rounds.
