not at 6 weeks notice they don't they only alternative was possibly diego chavez.. which could have been fun. but i like the gavin fight as a stay busy fight. i just want to watch kell win, i love when a fighter is busy. i think doing the same with brook as is being done with golovkin is a good move. he knocks out gavin late on and the announce the Rios fight or whatever bigger name it is the next week. easy.
The problem is that, other than Porter, all Brook's fights are of the stay busy' variety. Is he ever going to to step up and start facing some proper contenders? Or is he going to be like Sven Ottke
he will fight more big names. after this fight he should fight rios end of summer. then bradley, marquez, maidana.. then khan
People still base their opinion of Gavin on what he did as an amateur. Those days are over now and as a pro Gavin has failed at European level and shown that he isn't even any better than Bradley Skeete.
Brook is fighting a truely world class fighter in Gavin.. Now I see with all the up roar with Khan fighting Algieri or Broner surely they don't come near the class of Gavin.. Loool
I agree, I have to be consistent and say this is a poor choice of opponent, infact is it very poor in my opinion. The difference is Brook and Hearn tried to get Khan who you think is a great fighter, so Brook actually went for a top fighter where as Khan chose Algieri as first choice and has been idiculed, now he has back tracked and now looks like he has no idea what he is doing. But YES Brook should be fighting better opponents.
The problem with Brook is the location. Not many top quality fighters will travel to Sheffield to face him(even though they should seeing as he's the champion). Most of the big bouts are in america, so, until Brook wants to relocate or something, he's got no options. Like, Marquez ain't travelling to Sheffield. Thurman won't. Those types of fighters won't travel. Until Brook wants to travel for these fights, we're stuck with this level of opposition. I think this fight is a decent domestic dust-up. Later on in the year, I expec Brook to face a top guy in the states. Doing thta 2-3 times a year shouldn't be the defending champions obligation. If Brook beats a Marquez/Thurman at the end of the year, than its possible his fights will be at Wembley and some of the other big boys will be interested in fighting him for a lot more money. That's where he is right now.
