I think it would be a very close fight but I give the edge to Pacquiao. Brook is the bigger fighter and Manny is probably on the decline (he is nearly 38 after all) but I've been impressed with Pac man in his last two fights. Solid performances against two good opponents Bradley and Vargas. Brook hasn't fought the best at 147, the best Brook has beaten is Shawn Porter and like somebody else said, Porter is a poor man's Pacquiao.
Pac is still considerably faster than Brook and that's ultimately what I think it will come down to. Brook would have his moments but Pac would land these awkward angle combos and ultimately win a close but comfortable decision.
Yeah i think Pacman's ship has sailed. Great in his day but Brook would smash him everywhere. Would look good on his resume but this Calzaghe style padding doesn't sit well with me. He's one of the best p4p fighters on the planet. Would love to see him humiliate Spence. To do it in America would be even sweeter.
I really don't get this train of thought that brook would somehow Destroy manny? What is this based on, who has brook beaten that would suggest this?
A few important distinctions to make here guys Pac is nothing like Shawn Porter. Obviously much more naturally talented but their fighting styles do not slightly resemble each other... - Porter is an orthodox, Pac a southpaw - Porter is an aggressive come forward pressure fighter who likes to get inside, wrestle and use his physical strength. - Pacman likes to fight at mid range, jumping in and out landing his shots. At this point, I would favour Porter over Pac, just because I don't think Pac could keep him off and Porter is relentless. Onto Brook. Pacman may be faster but Brook's best asset is his timing (who else has exceptional timing that fought Pac...Marquez). He would be 20lbs heavier, is in the prime of his career and although beaten, did not get dropped by Golovkin, landing some nice shots in the process. Vargas is average, Bradley is shot (he nearly got KO'd by Vargas, and went life and death with Prov, who then got schooled by Molina). There is no way this fight with Brook happens and it is not because Brook wouldn't want it.
I still dont have a read on Kell Brook even after 2 top level fights. I scored the Porter fight a draw, with a bias favouring Brook. The Golovkin fight was what happens when Golovkin doesn't respect his opponent, he walked through Kell's shots and broke him. I find it a little ironic that Khan put in a near equal showing against Canelo but because Brook's corner chose to forego the inevitable 6th round conclusion, one man is lauded for his effort while the other is consigned to the scrap heap in hushed silence. I guess that's besides the point, but the take away from the only 2 meaningful enough fights to measure him against the likes of Pacquiao, is that he struggled against one of the best in the weight class they'd contest a possible fight at and was bulldozed 2 weight classes above it. I wouldn't pick a weight drained Brook against a faded Pacquiao, or Thurman and especially not Spence. He needs to move to 154 and contest any previous rivalries that were brewing there or not at all, if he chooses to drop back to 147 he loses all of them imho.
Khan put on a equal showing? Brook moved up two weight divisions to take on the most dangerous puncher in the sport and traded with him without getting knocked out cold. Amir Khan wouldn't last 1 round vs GGG. His performance v Canelo was just the same as usual Amir Khan. Start quick and then after 3 rounds the inevitable slow down and then the usual struggle which ends in a close win or KO loss. Brook actually landed hard clean shots on GGG. Amir Khan landed those powder puff punches on Canelo which don't do any damage to any opponent. Brook v Pacquiao to me depends on how healthy Brook would be at 147. A healthy Brook to me beats the current pacquiao. He has the timing, punch selection and ability to show angles to beat a very much slowed down pacquio.
Manny wins with a bit in hand, at 147 kell would be much bigger but much slower, people might say kell is the bigger puncher but who at world level has he stopped? I'd much rather see kell at super welter
I really don't think Pacquiao coming over is impossible, he was only paid $4m for the Vargas fight with a huge PPV % but Bob Arum said for Manny to earn "money like he used to" (so like $30m per fight) the PPV had to do 600k buys haaaaaaa, seen as Pacquiao / Bradley 2 only did 300k on HBO. Pacquiao / Vargas would of been lucky to do 100k on Top Rank's streaming website. There's no way he earned anywhere close to $10m for this weekends fight and he spent $1m of it on tickets to give away. Hearn could easily offer like a guaranteed purse of about $10m/$15m for a bit of upside on the PPV back end as a sweetener to fight Kell at Wembley. Hearn should be all over Pacquiao not being able to draw in America anymore and the fact Arum that is blatantly trying to cash him out.
Could Pac hand cuff Brook with volume thats the thing that stick in my mind, Pac isnt stopping guys anymore but he's still causing them trouble and his hands are still fast, feet and upper body not so much and that maybe where Kell can cash in.. I haven't seen the fight from the weekend but apprently Pac got hit a lot and it would be interesting to see how many flush shots Pac could take at this stage of his career I dont buy Kell being a huge puncher but he isn't feather fisted either. I could see either guy forcing a stoppage - manny of accumilation late on maybe espeically with british refs and kells previosuly broken eye socket. I think lean slightly towards a Brook win
Nowhere near equal. Brook might have won the 2nd round v GGG but that's it, he lost every other and was taking some huge shots and was nearly out of there in round 1. Khan was boxing the head off Canelo until the inevitable. Brook was lauded because he stood toe to toe with GGG in the middle of the ring and traded punches and stood up to it all. He has some of the biggest balls in the sport. Khan was out cold the first time he got hit.
Very Rose colored view of that fight TBH. Brook did better than many expected which has turned Brook into this super hero of some sort. The reality it that GGG just walked through Brooks shot not troubled at all, GGG knew he wasn't going to out box Brook so he just walked him down with no regard to Brooks power. If the towel wasn't thrown in when it was Brook would still have been in hospital to this day and this would have been a Prime PAC v Prime Brook thread..
That's not entirely true, he tried to box on the backfoot for the majority of the fight. I'd agree he took it to a defensively lackadaisical Golovkin briefly in the second round but to say that he traded with him and stood up to it all isn't the case. You've got me arguing against a point I dont necessarily disagree with though. It was a brave performance, as was Khan's. You could argue it was braver given his track record against punchers.
