At least hearn has or had a decent enough stable to build a half decent card for ppv. Warren will be struggling to bulk the frampton v Warrington card up. Its a decent fight...but probably more suited to being a chief support to say Joshua v povetkin. Obviously different promoters but as a stand alone won't do great at the box office. Typical frank slagged Eddie for sub standard ppv,s. First chance he gets he then puts on ppv,s. One he pretty much manufactured...by throwing his own fighter Lee Selby under the bus. Fury v wilder fight also a bit of a joke. Canelo v golovkin on too late to sell well.
No, Warrington is Warren's fighter. Selby wasn't signed to him. His last 2 fights were with Frank, but only on a fight by fight basis. So he actually done very well for his fighter, Warrington.
There is not a chance that Warrington or Frampton are PPV fighters and nothing will convince me otherwise. (Flop). Canelo - Golovkin, no problem with that being PPV but it’s one for the hardcores. (Flop’ish) Wilder - Fury, definitely a PPV but with a Vegas time zone I’m sceptical what numbers it will do? (Hit but will do less than Joshua Povetkin) Anthony Joshua v anyone, PPV. He’s a box office fighter and the biggest name in the game (probably). (Hit) Usyk - Bellew, Usyk is the best of a generation and Bellew’s last 3 PPV’s have certainly provided entertainment, again I have no problem with this. (Hit) Groves - Smith, it’s PPV worthy. The final of a massive tournament, a big domestic clash. I worry for this though. With it being moved to Saudi and being on ITV I just don’t think it will get the promotion it deserves. (Flop)
Yeah I get that mate. But is it reasonable to expect frank not to do over someone that's signed with him regardless if it was a single fight deal or two fight deal or whatever. Should a promoter have a responsibility to fighters. Looked pretty clear on the night....Selby was severely struggling at the weight. Frank spoke about him struggling at the weight in the lead up to the fight. I,d hope if someone signed for me as a promoter regardless of for how many fights you,d still like to think you,d advise accordingly not just to benefit a guy that had signed longer term. He done a number on Selby tbh...gave him an offer he couldn't refuse...knowing he was dead at the weight. Surely he's got a responsibility of care as have Selby's advisers. But poor form in my book from frank who for the last few years been criticizing everyone. That's the problem nowadays promoters trying to play god with the fighters. People put too much into the game/fight/training for it to be stacked in one guys favor only because he has a bigger following. Dirty business boxing we all know that...but we should be condoning it.
I wish the GGG - Canelo fight was UK time. I'd pay for ppv but not in middle of the night hen I can't keep my eyes open. they should have arranged it in Scotland (where I live coincidentally) . There's loads of gingers here - Canelo would love it.
How did Frank throw Lee Selby under the bus? Selby was no more weight drained against Warrington than he was against gradovich. I went to both weigh ins and in actual fact Selby looked better on the scales against Warrington. At the end of the day it's the fighters decision to have the final say at what weight they fight then next in line to ensure the fighter is fit and strong at the weight is the trainer.
Come on pal, you must know what you’ve posted is complete nonsense? Selby knew the score, he was being signed by Frank (out of nowhere land by the way) on a short fight deal in order to build and make the Warrington fight, which was also his mandatory. This is the boxing business and Selby got his money. Frank did zero wrong. If Selby couldn’t make the weight, then he along with Sanigar, a very experienced boxing man could have dropped the belt and did whatever. There is many things to criticise Warren for, but this isn’t one of them.
Even if it only does 50k it's still 50k more than zero if it was on normal BT. It probably will bomb and Warren, BT and the fighters will still come out ahead.
Smith v Groves will bomb, the tournament has lost all momentum. Also, Eubank sells so the final wont do anything like the numbers of that semi final.
I don't know how much wider appeal there is but each fighter has a decent fanbase and the fight itself should be good with two contrasting styles. I think as above the problem is getting a good enough undercard to justify making it PPV. If Fury had kept to his can crushing schedule he could've been on there along with whoever Yarde and Dubois were being fed. Now, it's probably going to be lacking strong enough support. I agree with you, too much time has past.
Be surprised if there is 50 thousand people who know who Josh Warrington is!! On a serious note , how can Frank justify this as a PPV fight after all the nonsense he talks weekly on these boxing videos on YouTube the man is a walking contradiction. All he does is slate Eddie Hearn rotten whenever possible but just seems to copy everything he does hahaha!
