As good as Jane Couch? (I'm reading her biography at the moment that's why I thought of this comparison). I've got no particular view on women's boxing one way or the other, but watching them digging in those body shots just didn't seem right. Are they allowed to punch each others tits, or is that the equivalent to a low blow in men's boxing?
The thing that put me off with womens boxing is that there were too few good fighters so on the rare occasion I watched some it was normally a gross mismatch that would never have been allowed in mens boxing. I don't know if this has changed but this is an issue that needs addressing before it can be taken seriously as a sport. I don't doubt that some can fight it's just I look on it as a separate entity & not something I'm interested in.
I have never actually seen a female boxing match - until I see one I don't suppose I can have any views one way or the other. What was the name of the really controversial American ice skater (the knee capping incident from mid 90's), didn't she become a boxer? Tonya somebody......... ?
That's the one - I remember the other one, Nancy Kerrigan, but couldn't recall her name! I'm sure she gave up the ghost on skating and decided to take up fighting. Do we have any boxrec warriors who can check this out for us?
Harding had a brief career 2003/4 and was 3-3. She "retired" due to asthma.....bit of a psycho that one. This content is protected
Harding was a vile joke - she was clueless. She fought on a Tyson undercard - I think it was Etienne - and it was a double farce. Jane Couch was tough but raw to the end. Taylor would not take a punch and stop Jane in about two rounds. Twelve years ago 3 women had medical cards to box as amateurs in Britain - now 508 have cards. The current top amateurs will give the sport credibility. The 4th Women's European Championships are taking place in Liverpool all next week - Taylor will try and defend her title for the fourth time. Adios.
I've only seen a handful of women fights. From the top of my head I can only remember Jane Couch, Christie Martin and Layla Ali. It has always usually been mismatch bouts that I have seen but I will reserve judgment on the current crop until I see them although if my memory serves me correctly I didn't particularly enjoy it in the past.
I don't like it at all but they should be allowed to do it if they want. I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be an Olympic sport.
Yeah those girls looked a bit more polished than Couch, inside and outside the ring. Couch was more the ADHD aggressive type than those 2 on the show.
They just don't seem the type to smash their boyfriend's teeth out with a hammer while he's sleeping, or throw a hammer through a moving car window at the driver.
Sorry Joe it wasn't directed at you, my post came up multiple times hence the 'WTF' its been tidied up now. The promoter had a bit of MILF thing going on though eh? Old Buncie made me laugh when she was banging on about women no longer being seen as sex objects and he chimed in with a heartfelt "Thank God!!!!"
