Bunce: Matthew Hatton title shot as genuine as Amir Khan's

The Ring "Title" is as bad as every other one out there...the method by which a new champion is crowned is spot on, but after that it is down hill all the way...no mandos, and the "champ" can fight anyone he likes within the division without an eye on the rankings. They can only get stripped when they move up or retire.

 

It is better than many Commonwealth title fights, but not as good as others.
IBO fights can be better than some WBA (the WBA who had three super-bantam champs the other months)fights, but not others.
I have been calling the various so-called world title fights "good international fights" for many, many years.
I'm just being courteous to the IBO when I give it their name -
This is a very silly thread in my opinion. Journalists, proper journalists, have to use the name of the title - that is a fact, trust me.

I mean for crying out loud I seem to remember Audley getting some crappy 'world' belt at some point.

Khan is a genuine titlist. The IBO is a front for an average fight between contenders. Worlds apart.

 

So you don't consider contributors to The Ring "proper journalists" then?

 

How do we change it though? We need this but how do we go about it. The powers lays with the fans.

Ive spoken at length in previous posts about how our sport is not marketed properly.

Rugby is now a pro game, with the correct baking.

Tennis has taken off in a major way and has money in it.

Boxing has and always will have it, but its fallen behind other sports. We still get out of shape heavies, and have mass arguments over who the champion is. How does the normal man/woman have a chance.

 

I know, how the hell was Hatton vs Pacquiao considered as a world title fight?

 

Is he though? I have huge problems witht he lower weights in the first place. The division arounds 130, 135,140 and 147 are far to watered down. Its a joke that we have 4 different divisions for 17 pounds......we are picking at straws here.

Giving boxers the ample opportunity not to fight each other is by making so many different divisions.

I can accept two over a 17 pounds difference.

I can accept Khan will never fight C. Dawson.......size being unfair but are you telling me he cant ever fight guys at 154?

The differences are so minamal thats its laughble.

Chambers, Haye, Byrds, Marciano, etc all had to fight men who constantly outweighed them.

 

Each division needs a super six style tournament to sort out the chaff from the cream .... then we will see who reigns king in each division ....

 

I agree... The cakes at Twickenham have improved 10 fold since the game turned pro. :deal
