Yep, I think Setanta are getting their act together. They have Woodhall doing the commentary and I'm a big fan of his as an analyst and boxer. They need to ditch the Holdsworth guy though....
One thing that has come through loud and clear listening to Buncey the last couple of days is that he is on sites like this regularly.
Which Holdsworth guy are you referring to? Surely not Steve Holdsworth who used to do the boxing on Eurosport.
He over reacts quite badly, 'Ooohhhh' for no real reason lots of times Insightful though. He picked the right hook as the key in the Lopez - De Leon fight after about ten seconds You can say it was obvious but still... would Jim Watt have called it?
No problem. While we're on the subject though, do you know if Holdsworth still does the boxing for Eurosport? It just seems I haven't heard him in ages but that might just be because I haven't watched any boxing on Eurosport for a while. That guy used to crack me up with his bluntness.
Mmmm....no Jim Watt probably wouldn't have called it in my opinion. He is good at saying what fighters are doing wrong but rarely calls what he thinks will happen. One of the best for calling fights is Roy Jones. During Hopkins/Allen 9 he actually called the big right that would drop Allen just moments before it happened.
Perhaps we should stop being so reserved about him, then we might get a proper bite out of the hysterical, donkey headed, bad shirt wearing, two faced, drivel talking half wit, rather than just an ambiguous side swipe.:hey
I don't believe that Steve Bunce reads these forums. He's far too busy rubbing shoulders with the "inside" men of boxing, gleaning information that he can't possibly share with us for fear of losing his job, etc, etc....
Well, I have always backed up Bunce here, & could never understand why so many dont like him. Steve Bunce knows his boxing, loves his boxing & isnt afraid to tell it like it is. Who can forget after the Rees fight when Bunce schooled Woodhall, & had Richie looking so angry he was about to cry Steve Bunce can talk till his head looks like exploding, but hes a good boxing man & knows his stuff, as I always said, if you met big Buncey down at your local, you would have a great time talking boxing with him. & thats what counts. Hes a real boxing man.
To be honest Dunky, I don't actually have any real ill feelings towards the guy, and I would be surprised if many others did either. He will get a ribbing for being a bit of a knob, though, and I'm sure he knows this. The only genuine issue I have is this idea that he "isn't afraid to tell it like it is". I remember one time on the BBC after Audley Harrison performed badly. Buncey was defending him to the hilt, saying how he wasn't that bad, and how we should give him a break. A couple of days later he tore him to pieces in his column in the times. I've always been wary of his "opinions" since then, as I can never be sure who's pulling his strings.
At one point of the show it was like an episode of Eastenders. Kev Mitchell was on the line talking to Buncey with Steve Claridge chipping in as well. If I couldn't have seen the screen I would have though they were in the Queen Vic - Phil Mitchell even got a mention.
