Sorry, but I think the show is a wasted opportunity. How about actually trying to address some of the problems within the sport rather than cosying up to boxers? Why should boxing fans being rubbing there hands together with glee to pay another £15 more on top of their annual Sky subscription fee that's already hundreds of pounds?
I suppose you could dedicate the whole show to the problems in the sport but i doubt if it would change any of them. I agree about the ppv fee. If sky werent paying such massive amounts to premiership football clubs they wouldnt need to do PPV. I like seeing the fighters and trainers on the programme and hope that doesnt change. Its the only weekly UK boxing programme we have so I reckon we should support it rather than knock it.
My thoughts too. To be fair the episode a few weeks back when he had Jones Jr, Hopkins, Haye, Calzaghe and many more big names on the show was quite a great achievement considering its only an hour long with adverts in there too.
Can you be that chummy with boxers and remain an objective journalist though - which might mean criticizing their titles or quality of opposition?
I agree. Bunce should be strongly critical of everyone in the sport and ostentatiously shun any cosiness with boxers, that way we'll get strong objective journalism every week and I'm sure the best boxers will still attend the show as guests.
Well if boxing journalists aren't prepared to highlight the blatant corruption and wrongdoing in the sport who is? Why is a blind eye willingly turned to it? Don King, whom Mr Bunce seems to admire, isn't a friend of boxing, he's a crook.
imagine roger mayweather instead dat wud be funny all u wud hear would be motherfuker dis and motherfuker dat
New to this website but would like to say that i love watchin the bunce boxing hour on setanta a great show also with a bit of humour , and hey kerrminator lol i no who u are hehehe glad they read ur thing out last week about the name lol
I thought the same thing;Great show, and love Buncey and Andy, but Buncey is certainly in thrall to DK. Quite disconcerting to me too.
I remember the meeting Bunce had with a pretty much destitute Kirkland Laing on the BBC several years ago. It was very moving. I wonder if Don King's ever played his part in leaving a boxer in a similarly poor state? :think Of course, "it's not what you deserve, it's what you can negotiate."
A bit of edge. Nice. There is a thin line to be walked. If I cross it too often I will end up on here 100 per cent of the time. Trust me. I've been in court with boxing promoters and lost - something that makes me unique as a poster on this or any other boxing website. It has cost me jobs at national papers. Adios.
Got to say lads that Bunce for me is the best at what he does, I genuinly believe he calls it how he sees it with the topics he covers (both articles and on the boxing hour), and I think thats why the boxers have respect for him, its nothing to do with his percieved "cosying up" to boxers. Theres a lot of elements to the sport that are easy to criticise but Buncy for me would be way down the pecking order there Setanta is doing good things for boxing in this neck of the woods i.m.o, you should save your criticism for where its needed
i know will be watching the buncey boxing hour this week to see what they say about the fight hopefully all good , but will wait and see.......
