I knew he wouldnt fight Broner. Katsidis has been fighting at a much higher level in my opinion fair play to Burns if this is true but I can't see him winning.
surprised me too if im honest my good man, when I heard the Broner fight was off I was hurting, as I was sure it was going to be Mitchell or Murray(tough tests) but not defining, & its been a long time since a scotsman has taken on the truly big names of the sport. I have confidence in Burns ability to beat the best, thats how I panicked when I thought he was being manouvered away, but Billy Nelson promised the fans that we wouldnt be disappointed, & boy did he deliver on his promise:happy Win lose or draw, Im proud of Burns for taking on the toughies, I just wish the guy in my avatar had got the chance, but maybe, just maybe he still will...
When he can stop a guy with an iron chin & the heart of a lion like Mitchell, you know Kat has serious power, its going to be hard for Burns, but in Billy I trust to come up with a gameplan to win:good
I don't know about Harrison, is it to late? How has the legnthy break effected him? Can he stay of the pop??? All will be answered soon I guess. As for Burns, I knew Burns wanted to fight the best but sometimes you just fear certain promoter's tend to steer there top names away from risky bouts. So happy this has come off though!!
Followed Scott's fights, had some great nights doing that as well. Wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do! put em up you are a hundred percent, a boxer can only fight who is put in front of him, cant wait for the burns fight our whole club probably go, great to get behind a Scottish boxer on such a big fight.
When did Kevin get that? Katsidis has an excellent left hook and heavy hands, but I'm unconvinced he's a serious puncher. His right hand is pretty guff, for example.
Michael clouted the fight out of Kev pretty easily. His punch technique is rather strange seems to over exaggerate the form of the punch. Ie. His hooks are very text book in terms of Knuckles up rather then thumb up. His right hand he seems to rotate the hand over like it says in the textbooks but it seems to stop the full force of his punches as he's taking the timing away and speed. Little things i've noticed about him...
Yes ive noticed that with the right he over rotates Brendon Smith has made him really turn it over when he throws it with a hook to gain leverage but I dont know if thats actually beneficial or anymore effective :think
I think the fact he's forcing it makes it a disadvantage. Sometimes you just got to time the punch and land it on the right spot. Haye once said to a lad on the channel 5 show 'Boxing Academy' Kevin Kelley had a video up on youtube talking about punch power and for some reason it's not on there. Anyways he said Speed+Timing=Power. It's kinda true it's the punches you don't see that hurt the most. Of course technique plays a major part but sometimes in Michael's case there's a fine line and i just think he over does it a bit to much.
I think a lot of it has to do with what you are comfortable with that is within a certain limit that isn't slapping but then again slapping has its speed advantages too.... I think timing and accuracy is the crucial thing in punch power somebody who can hit the right with decent force does better than somebody just banging away partially catching unless you have that real brute strength to just bludgeon through a defence. I think you are right that the fact he is forcing it in itself demonstrates a certain lack of effectivity. 3:28 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwQZEOQBFUk[/ame]
Come on... the guy has been in some memorable wars against guys who can hit. Johannesson is a fighter who I always 'bigged up' here, the lad could fight & could hit, & even before he fought a young Ricky Burns I predicted Burns was in a whole lotta trouble, & I was right. Estrada? Crude & stamina issues, but he had power too, even had my hero scotty in a bit of trouble when Estrada exploded on him early, in both fights Mitchell sucked up every punch both these guys could throw at him, his iron chin and massive heart pulled him through each time, both these guys lost to Mitchell cos they punched themselves out against the hard as nails englander. & Murray, he landed some bombs on Mitchell too, & as usual, Kevin out-toughed his man. Mitchell is a fighter who I admire greatly, & if Burns ever fights him hes going to have the fight of his life, trust me! Katsidis done Mitchell though, & that tells me that the guy has frightening power. Just my opinion lads, & I think Ricky Burns has shown balls above & beyond the call of duty stepping up in weight to fight this guy.
