Butler v Rodriguez ....

Butler is 29 years old, I don't believe he going to get better now, he didn't win a round last night and was completely outclassed, if Rodriguez pressed the issue he would have got the stoppage but seemed very content to box his way to victory.

So how do you go away and come back with enough to beat a Rodriguez?

Butler now knows he isn't good enough, nowhere near, I don't think he'll be the same after that, long way back for him.

It's just my opinion and will see what he does in the future, at 29 I don't think he gets better and I think that's a fair statement.

He has to recover mentally because he now knows he isn't good enough to beat these men, he can't do anything differently, if anything I believe he'd get KTFO if he fought Rodriguez again and that's a mental thing he'll have to get past.

And let's get it right here, Butler wasn't just beaten last night he was completely embarrassed, yes by a very good fighter but he didn't win a single round in my opinion at "home", it wasn't remotely competitive.

Butler didn't make weight, he tried to gain an advantage by not even trying to lose any more weight.

So what should I say? I'm certainly not making excuses for him or giving him a pass, maybe I'm being harsh but that's how I feel.

As for illness, bad camp or whatever, they are just excuses.

Bottom line is Butler was given a world title fight in his own country, failed to make weight by nearly 4lb and was beaten with ease, I don't have anything positive to say about it from Butlers point of view.

 

I agree Butler has reached his limit. No shame in that but he will never be on the level of Rodríguez, Tete and Inoue. It’s just how it is.

he should try and get the jamie conlon fight there was some hype for it and now they have both lost and are done at world level it could be a good money fight

 

Think Paul has enough left to beat Jamie but he should forget about world level now and concentrate on British Title

 

I agree Len. It also would not have mattered who Paul Butler had in his corner as he was levels off Rodriquez. Doesn't make him a bad fighter, he lost to a guy who looks a great fighter ! This is problem Len boxers here are slagged of if they don't fight elite boxers, then if they do and come up short there suddenly rubbish lol. Butler was brave, deserves credit for carrying on to the end against an outstanding fighter who was a joy to watch.

 

Thought he looked very good against Hall, just not on level of the best 4 or 5 in division.

 

Thanks pal, appreciate your kind words. Thats the thing, Butler has only been beat of world class, and one of them looks elite world class. Seeing Rodriquez wants me wanting a WBSS Bantamweight competition even more if they can get top guys in. Normally Bantamweight lacks depth, but has any other division got a better top 6 fighters currently? Only one that I can think comparable is Cruiserweights.

 

I can only assume you're a fan of Butler but trust me it's not a hatchet job.

You do know Butler has missed weight before? FW pulled one of his fights and was absolutely fuming, this isn't the first time he has done it.

So I have zero sympathy for him on that score becuase when it happens more than once then Butler can't ask for forgiveness or a pass and shouldn't get one.

Secondly, What is Butlers best win/wins? Stuart Hall? he won the first fight by SD for a world title then vacated it, didn't defend it, why didn't he defend it?

You are talking like Butler is world class and he has ran in to two amazing fighters and is very unlucky, well based on his resume nope, I'm not having it.

At 29 years old if your best two wins are Stuart Hall then you're not world class or anywhere near it in that division now.

Butler has stepped up to legit world level twice and was knocked out and shut out in his own backyard, so it isn't a hatchet job.. it's just my opinion, Butler simply isn't good enough to get near the top of that division.
