See, that right there is Joe fighting something OTHER Then his normal fight. If he's not on HIS game fighting his fight, he's not beating James Toney. Sure Toney's struggled with some lesser fighters, but if we're doing a hypothetical H2H matchup, it's common to use the best version. One could easily say since Reid gave Joe C a tough fight, a better version of Toney would win. Of course, that logic is skewed.
His ability to maintain a distance and his left jab. I believe Kessler has the advantages from the outside. Toney wins if it's a fight in-close.
Not neccessarily if the styles matchup is relevant, as it is when comparing in and out movers like Calzaghe, Littles, and Nunn. Not the case when comparing Reid and Toney. From what we've seen of Toney, there are certain styles he looks great against, certain styles he doesn't, and the in and out movers, or fighters who use distance, definitely give him more trouble. Toney's style was quite limited the way I see it, though he looked magnificent against certain styles.
Nasty style for Toney, really depends on Kessler's punch resistance, Toney's going to land some beautiful shots in this one. Let's see how Kessler does in the future. But if Kessler can take Toney's best, I'd take win for certain by decision, boxer-puncher stylists who work behind a consistent jab is the other type of style that is bad for Toney. Toney's always vulnerable to the jab. I also think it's safe to say that Calzaghe should be heavily favoured over Toney.
Damn, me and you agree on something. Toney has no problem with speed and volume punching. Calzaghe CANT outbox Toney and he does like to fight and jump in and let loose. Calzaghe is open for right hands ALL the time. Toney is sneaky and one of the best right hand counter punchers ever. Toney knocks him out or down multiple times. We are talking the best Toney against the best Calzaghe. Dont even mention defense..lol
I think if he stayed with that plan, it keeps him from getting completely shut out. But Kessler showed no ability to have a plan B when he was getting terribly outclassed by Calzaghe. Imagine how he'd react to getting countered silly.
That is a crackhead statement. Nunn and littles dont use in and out movement. James Toney can time that ****. They used the WHOLE ring. Nunn was moving and boxing circles around Toney. If you jump in and out a la calzaghe he can adjust and time that ****. Calzaghe comes in a straight line leaves back out the way he came. He, in no way, can move like Nunn. That is ****ing ******ed. Nunn also had more range, calzaghe throws wide punches and needs to get in close to score anything meaningful.
I'd love to know what advantages Kessler has over Toney, seriously. I can concede that speed and movement have given Toney problems over the years, but Kessler has neither of these. Kessler is a decent fighter but not a great one....he's being over-rated because he took an over-rated fighter to a reasonably close decision. Toney fought genuinely great fighters back in his day and did considerably better.
Name the speed of calzaghe that Toney would have problems with.. he damn for sure aint fast on his feet. B/c he jumps in and out and gets caught coming in all the time he has speed. That **** aint speed. He has his barrage a slap hand speed but they are ALL arm punches. Toney would counter the **** out of him after playing possom.
