That's the furthest thing from a "counter offer" and you know it. All it is is a justification for avoiding the fight.

 

There is no counter offer admittedly. But from what I have heard is smith got $1m or £810k to fight Ndam and the offer for the Saunders fight was 50/50 with a £1m guarantee. In fairness if I was being paid £800k for voluntaries. I would not be accepting that offer from Warren.

Neither fighter has the profile to sell a PPV at the moment but built the correct way it could easily do 300k buys netting both guys £2.5m which is much closer to the mark considering that’s close to what Whyte and Parker got which is a much smaller fight.

 

I think advertised properly, on sky sports every day, in the home of the 2020 premier league champions with the city buzzing it’s got the potential to do 6/700k. Tony bellew / Haye Number’s.

 

They don't want the fight though. It isnt about money. They have a plan and it doesn't involve Saunders.

 

I think the Sky thing is dying now a little. They still do a good job of selling PPVs but its more about social media now.

Agree with this. No reason why, if Froch became as big as he did, that with the right management Smith couldn't do the same.

Saunders obviously won't. An English middleweight world champion defending his world title in a Scottish leisure centre is the ultimate reality check for the guy's 'popularity.'

 

It does make sense that if Smith is getting paid $1 mil + for his routine defences then the same money to fight BJS is nonsensical

It was sad to hear Eddie speak like that about Smith and Saunders. Apart from the AJ $50m stuff, I can’t really recall hearing him have to come up with BS excuses to block a fight.

Everybody with half a brain knows that he is lying through his teeth and it’s quite plain to see that the reason he can’t/won’t make a counter offer is because Sky aren’t prepared to match Warren/BTs offer.

I couldn’t care less if it was shown on BT or Sky and I don’t like Saunders, but it would be a much needed shot In the arm for British Boxing for that fight to get made.
