Badly shook up by Kessler causing safety first, down numerous times. Pride would cause him to trade, he would get caught and unlike the other times not get let off the hook or be able to punch his way out of it.
Na Joe was too good. Carl Froch is an excellent fighter but Joe would have dealt with him. A clear unanimous decision. I'm a big fan of Froch and Calzaghe.
Argument is though, a Groves rematch will be a big money spinner. In fact, I don't think any other fight out there bring's as much money to the table as a Groves rematch. Fighting Ward again won't do big numbers + Ward beats him again, I don't think Chavez Jr will exactly be a massive sell either.. and that fight does nothing for his legacy. If he gives Groves the rematch and puts the whole saga to bed by coming out on top with no controversy, then he keeps/enhances his legacy and leaves with a bulkier bank balance.
Well possibly yeah, would like to know the figures. In Britain it would be huge, don't know how big outside of that. He will be looking at JCC, Ward, Golovkin etc who are all better known than Groves outside the UK.
Badly shook up against Kessler? Were we watching the same fight? Kessler put in a decent performance, but Calzaghe clearly won the fight. Kessler beat Froch, even when Froch beat him he didn't do it as clearly as Calzaghe did.... Calzaghe also fought a better version of Kessler. Down numerous times? Think he was down 3 times in his career(?). Got up fine each time, the two against Roy and Hopkins were flash knockdowns in the first round. Froch's been down twice himself - his legs weren't all there when Groves planted one on him. Froch is a top fighter, as tough as they come... but that isn't enough to beat Calzaghe who is simply ALL wrong for him.
So it's all right for Joe to go and fight the shell of Jones Jr but Froch is a bottler if he fights Chavez Jr? You can't have it both ways
I'm fed up of this bull. Groves arms weren't 'limp by his side till foster had him in a head lock. Groves thought he was gonna be re-started like when in a clinch and the fighter who wants to stop holding goes limp. No fighter can look me in the eye and tell me he was done, not even Froch! Go look yourself in the mirror and be ashamed of the **** you are spouting! If in any doubt go back and look at some of my posts over the last few years. Massive Froch fan!!!
Joe vacated to fight Hopkins not Roy. Like I said before, many people even think now that Hopkins would do Froch should they fight so again that tells its own story. The fight with Jones was simply a last pay day, plus he was up at LHW by that point.
Also I wouldn't call Froch a bottler for taking Chavez. As always if it makes money it makes sense. However, Froch lives on being the man who takes the right fights, therfore by his mantra he has to take the re-match with Groves.
And with Jones being Jones any fighter from in or around that era would want to fight him. If only just to say they shared a ring with him. (and yes I've read his book).
Down against feather dusters- the one thing froch can do is not let you off the hook. Which is why groves was getting stopped anyway. Groves could have boxed and won but threw it away. Calzaghe was hurt in around the 4th against Kessler and then boxed to a win- his pride wouldn't have let him do that against froch.
Always an outside chance but hugely unlikely. Completely disagree when he says froch is not letting him off the hook and was going to finish him. Froch is usually one of the best finishers out there...... But he was ****ed and had neither the accuracy nor the energy to put Groves to bed. Groves has proved he can weather and come back and thats what I believe was going to happen. People seem to forget that Froch had been more ****ed that groves even in that same 9th round!
Groves was turning his back with his arms by his side to avoid froch's assault...I didn't claim he was done, though he was clearly hurt, I said it wasn't a great idea. For me the stoppage was a bit premature and most likely robbed Froch of a legitimate ko. For the record I'm a fan of both and have paid to see both live.
