Have a close look at calzaghe's record and the record of the opponents at the time of fighting. Really that good?
Hmmm... you've not seen Bhop doing press ups between rounds when fighting a guy that froch pretty much went life and death with? Jones - granted. that was a horrible fight. But Bhop has proved since that he was still very much a class act when he fought Joe, and joe ended up taking him to bits.
joe was able to edge him out on a SD because Bernard cant fight at high pace for 12 rounds anymore. no one can in their 40s, but joe was thoroughly outboxed whilst Bernard was breathing regularly.
Hopkins spoiled his way to a close UD. Have to respect the mans cunning. But he wd never fight or trade with joe. Headbutt, clinch , dirty boxing , couple shots on way in or out. While this is the only way he can me competitive with cals I'm glad the judges don't merit negativity . End day joe wanted to fight Hopkins wants to cheat a win. Horrible to watch too hate Hopkins style
Don't know why JC cant see fit to say a decent thing about the best british SM since himself. Froch did nothing wrong and if a rematch happens fine, but we all know who Froch wants a rematch with and that's an unbeaten P4P great who looks untouchable. No diminishing his legacy for me if he goes after Ward, that a real test. All CF has ever done is face the best he could and continues to risk everything to ensure his fighting legacy. Froch is a fight fans dream, lets enjoy him while we can......and give him credit Joe!
That argument doesn't stack. Joe had Hopkins blowing out of his arse, you can't do that without outboxing someone. At the time everyone said it was because Hopkins was done, but he's proved since that he wasn't. Joe put in an absolutely class performance from rd 4 onwards in that fight.
course you can with a 40something guy. No need to get defensive just because Hopkins is clearly the better boxer. Joe showed he is a good longevity champ and you should be proud of his actual abilities like me, such as revelling in his marathon runner lungs, instead of making them up, which just stinks of jealousy. It is very stupid to pretend that 40somethings can fight at high pace for 12 rounds, when universally they cant. PLease try and be proud of our British fighters instead of making them look bad with grandiose claims.
he has a point, when Commonwealth champ froch became mandatory, joe ran from him to old guys, and regularly fought foes weaker than froch for years previous to that excepting the great Mikkey Kess. no disrespect to joe, he did the right thing in hindsight seeing that groves almost took froch last month, and his aim was to keep his zero losses. and credit to froch too, who didn't run to fight oldies when Commonwealth lil G became mandatory, although I am not in anyway saying he is stupid for facing him, you cant discount that theres some wisdom in running from tough mandatories. both joe and carl had their reasons for their decisions, lets not disrespect either of them. I sense that Froch was trying to prove he was different from Joe in his actions, and its true that they had different motives.
Ran from him to fight old guys? Most people would back Hopkins to beat Froch even now. Plus Calzaghe was 36/37 himself and it's documented he had began cutting corners in training. Froch didn't bring anything to the table where as the other 2 were big names allowed him to retire with big pay days.
that remains to be seen but bhop is surely too old to beat a top guy now, though he can still top pretenders. its true that they were big paydays, but its not true that froch wouldn't be a big payday too and easy enough to fit into joe's schedule. He was just too big a risk for a loss. Like I said, in retrospect in regards to FrochGroves, Joe did the right thing in running.
To say Joe C had a carefully guided career is an understatement. Call it clever management, call it what you want. In fact this is what this business is about. But on the other hand don't large up your CV, because really it ant that good
